Thanks guys for the input and ideas. I think some of you are right, in that the truck is just too small to use for a dumper. I keep it because I bought it new in 95 and paid cash for it, and it's been ultra-reliable ever since...it's like a "friend" now!
Why not a dump trailer ? If you throw some fertiliser bags in the back of the Ranger for stability, it will pull a 1 ton dumptrailer wont it ?

Plus, you never have to brush your truck bed before you load groceries in it, after dumping a load of dirt, and if the ranger dies, its easier to convert the trailer than a custom built dump body.

Theres a man that has a 95 ranger nearwhere I work. He has a little dump bed made from 3 inch channel. He has a header lift cylinder off a JD combine to dump it. The bed has no sub frame. Its got heve shing plates bolted to the frame . He has a small mowing service and hauls brush with it and trash. I think its a short bed model to.

I'm sure it would pull a 1 ton dump trailer. That is probably the best option I have right now. Plus the dump trailer could be used on other trucks, that's probably the best idea both for capacity and financially.

HTT, I think your right, the ranger isn't going to hold enough to make the project worthwhile.

My solution is bins. I use a 5X10 trailer I can load with forklift ready bins. The pickup location loads the bins with their loader. When I get back home with a load, I use my loader and forks to lift and dump the bins where ever. The nice thing about this setup is I can pile a lot higher with my loader than I can with a dumping trailer or truck.

I did the bins and trailer for several years. This year I lucked into an old chevy 1 ton with dualies and a long dump bed. But even the one ton does not have tremendous capacity. And if I am towing the trailer, I find it's faster if I use bins in the truck because I can unload the truck from the side without unhooking the trailer. Then I can take advantage of the pile it high option, too.
