I think the detent on my BX24 has shifted somewhat and it now locks in the raise position. Not good when I almost dumped the dirt on myself . Anyone ever experience that? Anyone know how to make the adjustment if possible? Does anyone know how to tighten up the slop in the joystick too?

There is no way for the float to "shift" to the UP position. I suspect the clue to your problem lies in the second part of your question about the linkage.

For the float to work-the spool is pushed into the endcap on the back of the valve and retaining balls hold it there...It common for these balls to get rusty causing trouble engaging or hold the float. But when you raise then loader the spool should be moving the other way-away from the endcap.

I would make sure to lubricate everything well first...

I'm not familiar with the BX, but the newer Mxx40 series joystick operates by cable (unlike the older M4700 where the joystick directly operated the valve). I had the plungers (which connect to the cables) under the joystick rusting and sticking. A little penetrating oil solved it.

If yours is cable operated, it's also possible that the cable needs adjustment.

Not sure about the BX24 but for my BX22 (LA210) there is a replaceable bushing that can help quite a bit when things get sloppy.. I've attached the parts breakdown for the 2 different style levers for the LA210. The bushing is index #20 on both of the diagrams.

It looks like the new style (page 27) has a bushing in the handle too at index #110. That would have been handy in the old style.. I ended up boring out the handle to the next pin size to get rid of my slop.

Should also mention that if you have too much slop, the lever can bind and can seem like the valve is sticking. It was that way for my bucket. I would shove the lever to the right and it would stick there until I bumped it. Figure out it was so sloppy it was binding. That is why I replaced the bushing and bored the lever out.
