Flooding

   / Flooding #11
We had 2 inches fall last night from the storm, but no flooding in our area. My step son lives in Henderson and it looks like the town was hit by a tornado. He said it was so loud that his ears where ringing after it passed when we talked to him on the phone. Trees and branches have taken out power lines all over the town. It will be a few days until they can say if it was a tornado or not for sure. The one that hit van a couple weeks ago was an F3 which is about 15 miles from our place. The damage is just amazing to see. Trees just snapped in half for as far back into the forest as you can see. Entire houses are just gone. It's not the flooding that has us scared, it's all the tornadoes. Roughly guessing, I think there where five last night in a 50 mile radius of us.

Sure hope you stay safe Eddie , I just can't imagine being hit with a tornado , losing my home in a tornado or a flood . We get hit with some cold weather and snow storms but nothing to take away our homes . I guess it is all a trade off , as for me I guess I will stay north as we have given a lot of thought of moving south . My friend moved to Fl. a couple months ago and they seem to like it so far, even with the hot temps., which will only get worse in the coming months .

Back from the call. Our VFD is located in-between two of the creeks that flooded so myself and one other volunteer were on our own.

The water rescue was on our side of the creek and was a success. A little old lady unfamiliar with the creeks did not see any signs so she drove through the rushing water and got swept off the road into the deeper water filled ditch. The water was about 6-8" deep on the road where she got washed off but closer to the creek it was deeper and the water swifter.

Only the front of her car was submerged in the ditch - We could drive to her and stand in the water but she was too frail to walk in the current. We set her in the fire truck and took her to higher ground.

I finished smoothing out the washouts on my county road with the box blade, now I need to work on my driveway, fix the erosion in the spillway (after it dries) and repair a few washed fences.

I was in Taylor on Monday when the rains started up again and the truck dealership had water running over their retaining wall and into the showroom after about 30 minutes. The hwy had several places with deep water flowing over it (no low water crossings close by) and the smaller farm to market roads were all closed between me and my house due to flooding. I eventually found a route that got me home only adding 70 miles to the trip. The creek behind my property was over the bank about 500 feet and within 10 feet of my back door.

No water inside any of my buildings, but the pasture will take a while to dry out.

Just got back to our place last night. We spent the week in CO helping a grandson graduate high school. As soon as I finish my coffee it is out to assess the damages. We already know we have at least 20 feet of fence down. Hope it ends with that. Fingers crossed.

More rain in Houston today. Flooding was not over from yesterday and this one looks like another heavy water event. Crazy, crazy, crazy. Hope all our TBN'ers keep their heads down and stay safe. Prayers for all those affected by the storms.

Im out here in Dallas this week. The news is reporting that a dam in Midlothian is near failing. There were seven big industrial pumps in the video they showed that they were using to try and pull the watter down, but the **** was getting run over by about two inches of water. I suspect that they could loose that one.

I have lost count how many inches. Somewhere around 12 inches in the last 2-3 weeks. I'm an hour north of Houston. The Lewis Creek Reservoir Dam (cooling lake for the Entergy powerplant) is about 4 miles from me. I used to live in Conroe Bay (on Lake Conroe) about a mile from the dam. Conroe Bay was one of the many subdivisions that were forced to evacuate, as the dam was threatening to burst.
Here are a few photos of my place, which has a gully running through it. I think I need a third pond! Water was ripping about a foot deep over my island/duck pond's overflow spillway this morning
