Do you have a pic of the picker?

Is this a rock picker or a rock shaker.

Here is a link.

500 Series Rock Picker

Do not know how to do a picture.

Thanks, Scott

Scott,
In reading through the literature I think all of the controls are on the picker. You will need supply"Dual hydraulic system" and a 12 VDC power source. I.e. The remote control feature

Not 100% sure what they mean by dual hydraulics. Would this be two sets of quick disconnects or two systems capable of 12 GPM @ 1500 PSI each. I would lean towards two sets of quick disconnects, Which most Ag tractors would have. May want to ask if there is an option for open or closed center hydraulics with this unit.

P.S. I always thought kids where meant to be "rock Pickers" sure worked that way way when I was young.....

He only has 11 GPM for the remotes on the tractor.

Would the needle type restrictor cause the PRV to open and heat the fluid?

Scott
Assuming you have an open center, constant flow system (fixed displacement pump), YES, PRV will be forced to open, IF you are not throttling the control valve, just "full speed", AND you set the restrictor to "tight". And that would also mean that the restrictor will not fill any purpose.

A restrictor on a work port line, only helps control flow when part of flow can be diverted (feathering). Like oldnslo posted, it also depends on if you have a constant flow system or a constant pressure system.

In a constant flow system, a restrictor controls pressure. Flow is a secondary effect of that pressure.

In a constant pressure system, a restrictor controls flow. A constant flow system, will be similar to a constant pressure system, when entire or part of flow by passes through the PRV.

Flow through a restrictor basically depends on following:
1. Pressure differential over the orifice, pressure before minus pressure behind orifice. Pressure behind orifice is basically the load pressure.
2. Shape of orifice
3. Fluid viscosity

Called the manufacture , and they said you need two sets of remotes far the different hydraulics on the picker. You have both cyl and motors, so one electric control valve will operate the hyd motor, and that remote flow rate can come from the setting on the remote lever. The other solenoid valve will activate the cyl/cyl's to dump or whatever they do. He said you need 12 GPM's, but 11 will work.

The 1500 psi is the min you need to run the unit.

JJ, my thought was that I have 11GPM @ 2600PSI so I think I will have at least 12GPM @ 1500PSI.
If the weather is good I will pick it up this weekend and then run and see what happens. I was told by the manufacture that I will need a flolw control.
I wish grangchildren were close by so I could give them a job. I had to resort to the wife now she thinks buying a picker is a very good investment.

The machine I am going to buy is used, six years old barn kept. It is less than 1/2 price and looks new, **** are still on the tires. I don't believe the gentleman had enough tractor or no flow control.

Do you have to vary the speed of the hyd motor in relation to how many rocks it has to pick up? Are there times that you have to turn the rock picker shaft real slow, or does the speed of the tractor dictate the speed at which the hyd motor runs.

The variable flow divider valve that JJ linked to will work fine in your application. You can tee the excess flow and motor return to the same hydraulic coupler ..I have this setup on my FEL mounted cement mixer, ..poured many a load of crete with it and it is OK to reverse the flow thru the valve.
