the "boss " was the people that shoved the ACA down everyone throat. this choice is your choice about your body and your choices on what you want in your body. not what hours or the job you want or anything like that. funny thing at the hospital i work at the infection control nurse that that does the flu shots last year got the flu

In my case the Administration said it was a requirement by the County Public Health Nurse so the Hospital's hands were tied... it was posted and put out in the newsletter.

On my own time I went to see the County Public Health Nurse who was very forthright... she said it was NOT a requirement and only a recommendation and in addition the recommendation is for those providing direct patient care.

The Public Health Nurse was a little miffed that the Hospital had misconstrued what she said, gave me her card and told the Hospital Administrator to call if there were any questions...

To say the least the Administration was none too happy and went on and on as to questioning why I would go to the county on this..

The bottom line is if I had to do it over again I would and those in Authority do need to be held accountable...

Maybe I feel stronger about this than most but I have had friends and family following medical advice with dire consequences... medicine continues to evolve and what was considered standard practice at one time if often changed, modified or even rebuked.

My friend had a bad ear infections as a child... so he was subjected to radiation to treat his ear infection... he ended up with two brain tumors in later life and almost all the people in the country that developed his type of brain tumors had the SAME medical radiation as a child...

Just because something is done for the right reason does not mean there is no risk or that it might be wrong.

The vaccine manufacturers have carved out a nice niche with the Federal Government shielding them from liability to the public... just something to think about.

Each person needs to make their own decision based on circumstances.

I would like to add something related...

We were all required to go through a new hire process upon the sale of the Hospital...

When it was my turn I showed up with my childhood medical records and vaccination cards as requested... the Doc wanted to give me a full battery of injections just to be sure and told me not to worry as my employer was picking up all the costs...

I refused and said I have written proof so this is not an issue... the Doc made a call and then handed me the phone... HR said it is routine and I stood my ground... the HR person... who is not a medical professional asked if I would agree to a Titer Test where blood is drawn to check immunity levels... I agreed.

Titer - Wikipedia

Had the blood drawn and the test came back that I had all the right anti-bodies and needed nothing more...

Again... why would anyone blindly subject themselves to injections without the ability to give informed consent?

This is still America and I am not in the military and I met all the requirements at the time of hire...

I'm sure a lot of this is based on conformity... going from an organization with several hundred employees to one of 50,000 employees has been eye opening in many ways...

Yeah stand your ground. They tried to order me to take flu shots in the AF and I refused. I told them that I did NOT sign up to be a medical guinea pig and I refuse to take any more shots that you know nothing about. Like those stupid gamma globulin shots they forced on us in Nam. It was like getting an butt load of thick Kayro syrup. Later found out to be effective for all of a couple of days maybe so they stopped them. So on the flu shot they said direct order, I said congressman and that was that, no more flu shots.

As a person that doesn't drink, smoke and otherwise keeps out of trouble... never even thought of drugs and no prescription medicine in years, no risky behavior or risk groups EXCEPT OWNING MULTIPLE TRACTORS... it truly amazes me how individuals continue to be marginalized... we actually had employees in tears over drug test peeing in a cup... especially, with the movement on expanding patient's right, informed consent, HIPAA, etc.

It could just be that I have life experience and turning into a difficult old fart?

By the way... not a single employee failed the drug test Hospital Wide... anyone wonder why healthcare is so expensive?

It was not the cost of the test/exam but the clinic where we were sent averaged 4 to 5 hours on the clock away from work... for me it was 4.5 hours surrounded by people hacking and coughing as the OcMed clinic is also Urgent Care.

Again, I have no issues with voluntary vaccines and people making an informed decision.

I got my first ever flu and pneumonia vaccine last November. They were recommended by my Rheumatologist. I can't remember the last time I was sick but at 66 and the RA meds, the Dr. thought it was a good idea. The RA meds pretty much shut down your immune system. I'm also more attentive when I go to the store. People coughing, sneezing or sniffling will send me in the opposite direction holding my breath. As soon as I get home, I wash my hands and face.

Heck you're at risk just spending all that time in hospitals. You should be getting what we called hazardous duty pay in the AF.

Some may think you paranoid, but I have to admit, I do the same thing.

ultrarunner - I've liked many of your post in the past. I didn't realize that you were a rebble too! :) Glad you stood up for yourself. I'm SURE your employeer didn't "misinterpret" anyone. They just looked to pass the buck and never imagined someone would call them out.

As for the CDC website. When I looked into the flu shot, it was many years ago and before the ACA. The website was very good and informative. There were articles giving the good and bad of the flu shot. I went back a month ago to forward some of the studies to a coworker and saw that they removed all articles critical of the flu shot. I guess you have to go elsewhere for answers from the medical community.

Like most things... follow the money and much will be revealed.

The Government is king when it comes to Health Care dollars with a few exceptions.

It was not always like this but there are politics in most things.

Our local pediatrician has a huge practice... he is not anti vaccine but 100% believes the schedule and number "Recommended" for infants and toddlers is not without risk.

Mom spent a career as a Charge Nurse... never offered or received a flu-shot... she retired in 1995.

Of course they did have them for high risk groups and for spouses of those afflicted with things like Leukemia...

Time will tell but the time might take decades for patterns to develop and be recognized.

I really miss some of our seasoned Doctors... the ones with military field hospital training that knew what was needed and what is CYA...

We were lucky to have one for years as Chief of Anesthesia... one of his favorite sayings is, "I hear what you are saying but I disagree"

I guess you could say he was a Doctor's Doctor because he had seen just about everything and was calm no matter the situation.
