What is the proper way to check trans fluid, lift up or down?? :(

I check mine with the FEL & 3-point down. This is what my Op Manual recommends.

If you mean hydraulic fluid, you want all cylinders retracted when you check it.

Actually when you think about it - probably does not make much difference. It takes hydraulic oil & pressure to move any/all cylinders in either direction. There had better not be a time when any of your cylinders are devoid of hydraulic oil.

except that you are thinking of dual acting cylinders with oil on either side.. Most internal lift cylinders are simply a cavity with a moving piston, and oil only on one side.

Still, in an 8n that holds 4.5-5g of oil.. the lift cyl capacity is about 12 ounces.. so it makes little difference on the internal cyl.

best way to check is to remove the bottom bolt from the round dipstick cover. fill oil till it dribbles from there. this keeps oil MOSTLY off the old axle seals and lubing your brake pads.. but still lets stuff that need lube get it.
