The savings will pay for them pretty quickly. Does your local utility have any kind of program to provide them for less. Around here they end up being about $2.

As far as I know they don't. I will find out. That would still be quite a bit at about $360 for bulbs. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

When I need bulbs I look for the cheapest chinese made bulbs at outlet stores, such as Big Lots. A lot of them are 130V and have a brass base. They last a good bit longer than 120V bulbs. Also, when I was working as a contractor, I bought bulk cases of bulbs. 100-150 bulbs in a case with no packaging inside. You might end up with 4-5 busted ones, but no big deal.

Personally I do not like the light from most florecent bulbs they give me a head ache.
I do use them shop and work areas though do to the amount of light you can get out of a 4 ft bulb in the same area as a 120v incandesent.
I use on standard bulbs in the living spaces or some times halogen.
If you have are with regular 120v incandecent buldb that blow often. Put them on a dimmer. the can that have to be ramped up by turning or sliding them from off to on. You will se some big life difference here.
My old home had laundry room that went thru 1 60 watters a month. I got sick of it and was fussing over on the job one day way back when. I old timer Ol to me then I was 27 ish... it was 97...
suggested the dimmer.. It does work. at his promting I wrote the date in the fixture ... I was shocked when I chaged it 3 yrs later...
I put my ( whom I kidding, Wifes) kitchen cac light on a slide up toggle dimmer in 2001 and have replaced one flood since... and there are 4 lights....
lights inthe vanity are on a dimmer but the kind that can be preset and are not quite as effective... the vanity light has 5 of those round bulbs and i replace 1 or 2 a yr...
I am considdering going to some dimming florecents in some locations. Because there are as mentioned different colors and electroninc dimming balast that can give you closer output to the incandesent bulbs... But ouch do those electronic dimming balast cost...
I even put a floor lamp in my sons room on dimmer by putting one in a box with a extension cord spliced in and we use that as a night light for him... and a reading light for bed time stories... in this case I use a light up toggle dimmer...
