FMC brushcutter and ???

Many years ago I went to an auction and they had a FMC brush cutter that was powered by the PTO to a tire then to a round disk just below the deck (no gear box) ,also on my travels I ran across a what I call a large string trimmer, It had a hyd pump on the PTO which ran a hyd motor on the motor was attached a round plate that had instead of string were using old v belts and was offset to the right side of tractor.
My question is has anybody seen or owned any of these ,and if so what was your experience with them.

Here's a picture of bush hog that is driven by a wheel, which itself is driven by the PTO shaft. It's not a good picture but you can get the idea. If you look real close, you can just barely see the edge of tire sticking out a little bit in front of the top part of the shroud.
The good part about this wheel driven set up was that it acted as it's own slip clutch when the wheel slipped on the round plate, whenver you hit something hard. Interesting design.
