Re: followup on \'D\' for 4wd

Bet you are right Ernie. It's rebuilt from 2 or 3 dead tractors.

Then they hide everything with a thick coat of paint
and import them here from you know where.
Sound familiar ?

Re: followup on \'D\' for 4wd

<font color=red>Did you ask him whose factory it was and where it was? Sounds like one of the generic "it's factory rebuilt" by someone somewhere.

<font color=black>No I didn't. I decided it wouldn't help, because at some point he mumbled that he thought that they were originally made by John Deer.

That pretty much answered my questions....

Re: followup on \'D\' for 4wd

Yeah, made in the USA, shipped to Japan for use in the rice fields, factory rebuilt in Japan by people who didn't know the correct model and shipped back to the US just for you.

Re: followup on \'D\' for 4wd

One this is absolutely true we know nothing till we talk to the dealer...

Re: followup on \'D\' for 4wd

True, the only things we really know are:

1. That a tractor that is not 4wd has the model number that is for a 4wd model

2. The dealer states it is factory rebuilt, but it has frame rust indicating that it was pretty rusty at some point and they didn't bother to paint the frame.

3. The helper has heard something about a Yanmar-Deere relationship, but has it wrong.

They could have a salvage tractor, a tractor with the wrong hood, bad decals, or a complete representation (either knowlingly or not knowingly).

Re: followup on \'D\' for 4wd

Fortunately we know what we are doing (cough!) But think of other poor unsuspecting individuals that are thinking they are getting a factory rebuilt machine that was built by John Deer

The rust should be an obvious giveaway that if they were rebuilt that they have been used much since then... or.....

Even if it is honest ignorance on the sellers part.. I wish more people would take the time to learn about the material they push. Reminds me of radio shack. I'll walk in and ask for 'x' resistor, or a power 'this' etc... and get these ignorant blank stares from the 'answer people'.
Seems to me they should hire someone with ...maybee... experience in electronics or a related field. The other miff is when in line , hearing the clerk give some other unsuspecting fool blatently incorrect info on a product or how to hook it up...... or tell them that they don't carry part 'x'.
Last time I was in, the guy ahead of me asked for part 'x', and the clerk said they didn't carry it.... I had to speak up and point to the section on the wall where they did in fact have part 'x'.
Got awkward with the clerk then.. but hell...shouldn't they know their store / job better than the guy in off the street?

ok, ok.. i'm off the soap box now.. sorry.

Re: followup on \'D\' for 4wd

I guess those unsuspecting people should buy a new JD. People who do their job well, are knowlegable, and honest are rarer and rarer. It is often overcome by greed, sloth, and dishonesty. This is a price we pay for an anonymous society, lack of discipline and an attitude that whatever you can get away with is fair game. Laws are rarely enforced in property crimes.

So much for my Soap Box.

Re: followup on \'D\' for 4wd

This is crazy, you still haven’t talked to the dealer. The mechanic/helper is not the dealer. I have mechanics that if I were gone who knows what they would say about the tractors. I had a mechanic a year ago that would say anything to a customer; I fired him after I figured it out but I don’t know how many people he talked to. If I wanted to know your feelings on nuclear power I wouldn’t go ask your neighbor or drive by your house and try to decide by the nick knacks in your window sill. Talk to the guy if he says the same thing as the mechanic then fine, he's a goof; if not then maybe you need to tell him about his mechanic. I wish somebody had told me about mine sooner.
