I am also a fan of many of the grey market tractors, Yanmar and Mitsubishi especially and while they aren't as cheap as they used to be, there are some great tractors out there at reasonable prices--just stay away from the "refurbished" units showing "5 hr".
Just my $0.02.

Just make sure parts are availalbe for the grey market tractor. I bought an Iseki TS2205, which is a good tractor, but can't find affordable parts. Yes you can find parts but thaey are expensive some parts must be ordered and shipped from Japan. Iseki was sold in the US under the White/Bolen name but the TS2205 was never sold in the US.

So be cautious of grey market.

Just my 2 cents.

You are right on and I should have said more about that in my post. I really like Isekis, I've owned 2 of them. I've also had a Hinomoto, a Yanmar and 3 Mitsubishis. The reason I favor the last two brands is specifically because of the parts availability. Yanmar probably being in the forefront of availability but Mitsubishi parts are quite accessible too and my personal experience is that overall they are priced in line with similar parts for newer "name brand" tractors.

I actually bought my Kubota B7410 for a little under $7k... of coarse a cutter would add considerably more. I pull a 5' with it but I keep things mowed down pretty well. It would probably be better suited to a 4' but it has worked ok for me. It is a no frills tractor but it was cheap and it's reliable.

$7000 for new I don't think so. Many of the gray tractors are refurbed ones from China. Just be aware if they are.

I found and bought mine through ebay. It didn't meet the guys reserve but we settled after the auction. $5000 for the 1999 model L with 1200 hours and the 4' bh and 5' fm. It spent it's life mowing. I've made a few changes and done some repair but none of it was really needed. I like working on stuff so I do. I bought it about 2.5 years ago.

Some more detailed pics..

Agricredit sells their repossed equipment on an internet auction. Their website is Welcome to Agricredit Then click on farm equipment for sale then follow prompts to auction.

Below is a tractor that would do the job for you quite well. It is 2006 model but only has 17 hours on the tractor (Iown this exact tractor and have 5 acres). If you stopped the auction to buy it today it would be $8726.00 but high bid so far is $5,500.

If you are in Texas it might work.
