Vert, on the larger pallet I didn't see how high it would lift. I wasn't about to tempt fate just to see if I could. If I had reason to lift to full height I would but I wasn't what I was trying to accomplish. The total lift height was about half of the range of the loader. I did lift the smaller pallet to near full height as they were stacked onto of each other.

JB, that's a 300x loader that I'm using. They're rated for 1350 IIRC. There's nothing modified or cranked up about them. I was able lift them about 6 inches off the bed of my dump trailer(roughly 60" off the ground).0 and placed them on the ground. I then moved them up the hill to the wall. I was able to lift them about 12" from the ground. The second smaller pallet I was able to lift to full height.
Matt

I don't get it, I've tried lifting known weight just over the rated capacity with no luck even just to get a pallet off the ground to move it, not lifting high.

And you're saying you moved these at 50% over rated capacity???
That's why I said they must of done something with the newer model tractor to allow that.

I read cx in the title ? but I guess that's what you were getting at, that you don't need the cx to to accomplish a big job.

JB, without sounding like a tool, I think it's technique. Instead of trying to curl and lift I angle them down and then lift. After they start to rise I curl. I also try to keep the weight as close to the mast of the forks as possible. My safety was raised slightly by the dealer when I bought my 448 hoe. But the tech said they come from the factory set lower then spec and all the hoe's end up needing to be dialed in. So the rockshaft can lift the hoe into place.

It's all the geometry anyways, it's less "load" at certain radius's of the lift. That's why skid steers have different lift types. The wall is finished with the excepting of a few caps. My buddy owns a guillotine, which will allow both sides to have a rough face without cutting them. I'll post some pics later.

I mentioned the cx loader since the two are very close and if the X will lift it there's no question the CX will.

As promised here are the nearly finished wall pics. I should probably start another thead but too tired at this point.

JB these blocks do step back and are good for mass/gravity walls due to the weight. The brand is Allen Block but I'd look for Versa lok instead. Theses have some dumb corner blocks. They're also inconsistant as much as 1/4, which doesn't sound like much but adds up over the courses.

Matt,
How much clearance do you have on each side of the electric meter?

Can you cut those caps with a wet saw? I typically will score the caps and split them with the cut side on the inside joints. I laid about 900 62# retaining wall blocks for my new shop foundation this year, that was a good work out for me.

Hey Steve, yes the caps can be cut with a wet saw. But the guillotine is the best for making it look right. I'll post the finished pics later on today. If you cut them you have a smooth face and since the rest of the wall is rough it looks funny. There's a few feet clearance on the meter also. Lifting these blocks gets old real fast. I swear some felt more like 100lbs.

This is the second wall I've built with them, the other was and inside corner so you don't need to use the corner blocks, you just cut the lip off the stretchers. Next I'm going to build a stairway along side this wall but I may wait till spring out of time and $$$ at this point.

I figured I'd post some real world results of my 300x loader. These wall blocks weigh 75lbs each and the pallet's at least 25lbs. I would prefer the hoe on as ballast while moving this kind of weight. My rears are loaded and the BB weighs about 500lbs. But it can be done safely if you use steady movement. The pallet on the tractor is 1950lbs + pallet, the other is 1425lbs + pallet.

Matt:cool:

Those are some good pictures but, next time you take a picture of your tractor lifting heavy stuff....be certain the pallet is actually off the ground. More convincing, that's all.:D

So your saying I handled all those blocks just for a photo op? Get real. If I could have operated the tractor and snapped pic at the same time I would have. I'm not about to be unsafe operating the tractor period.

He was just teasing you, no reason for the

I believe you, and I bet if you got off the tractor, that might of been the difference in the needed ballast :D

Well I may have tipped the scales on that one. I was as suprized as you guys that the loader lifted it. The full pallet weighed just over 3k, it was placed over the axles of the trailer. I split the pallet into two so I could lift it. The larger of the two was the original.

If I could only get the wife to take pics of better yet a video while operating it. But she's never got time to film me "playing" with my tractor.
