Ford 1300, top end not oiling....

Yes, John Bud may be on to something there. On my Isuzu 2-cyl. diesel, holes in the rear shaft support tower where the oil is supplied from an external steel tube from the lower oil galley near the filter, must line up with the holes in the shaft, otherwise no oil to the rockers. The shaft (at least mine) is hollow with plugs at each end. From there, additional holes in the rocker shaft are also located at each rocker plain bearing. Oil must flow out from that bearing clearance onto the top of the head and back to the sump, in my case, down the push rod tunnels in the head and block. (This may be info you already know, but just in case)

My problem was totally opposite. Too much oiling at the rockers and it couldn't flow fast enough down the pushrod tunnels, so it backed up and eventually (5-min.) flowed out the breather on top of the valve cover. The fix was just a matter of replacing the rocker shaft and rockers to get back the proper clearances.

Well guys, I pulled the oil filter, cranked over engine, I have oil coming from pump there. I pulled pressure switch and went to try to find a guage. I wanted one that would just screw into block. No such luck. You have to rig up with plastic hose, fittings, etc. then to guage. I'll keep looking. Put pressure switch back in, hooked up air hose to filter mount, and blew air into who knows where. I could barely hear a little air escaping from top of head down hole where lifters are. This is the normal oil path, but not much air coming there. So, I pulled timing cover off, and lo and behold, no oil tube. There is a bolt with a copper washer screwed in to where I think one end of the tube should mount, but don't know where other end is to go. I guess I'll have to buy a tube, then try to see which holes match up.

Here are some pics of the front cover off. Not much to show, but there is no oil tube. Next week I will go back to dealer and see if I can order one, with bolts, get a gasket set, and put back together. The inside of the front cover doesn't have any oil galley in it, so we'll see what happens.

I found the original rocker arm assembly's, they didn't appear to be worn too bad, but as luck would have it, they were rusted up, wouldn't move at all:mad: I remember talk of using wax to free up stuck bolts, so since the wife was gone shopping with my daughter, I brought them in and put them on the stovetop. Heated them up, applied a birthday candle to pivot points, and the adjustment screws, the wax wicked right in. Carried them out to the vise, a small hammer and a pair of pliers freed them right up. Brushed them with a wire brush, stuck them in a can of diesel till I get ready to go back together with engine.

Next time you heat something on the wife's stove, put it in a coffee can or something so if it leaves any marks, she won't be able to identify it with the part you have in your hand or on the bench when she storms out of the kitchen with blood in her eye...

You can also go to Newholland.com and follow the parts links on the left of the screen and look at the parts diagrams yourself they are all online on the new holland web sight.

Went by the dealer this weekend, bad news--part no longer available. He gave me the # of a salvage yard in Commerce, said they could probably locate one. I called this morning, they haven't found anything yet. I'll give it about a week, then go to plan b.

There is a Ford 1300 for sale right up the street, if you can't find parts any other way???
Actually I would get on a cellphone with national coverage and start calling everyone. Someone, somewhere has that part. Another option is to make it from scratch, but the easiest way is to grab a phone.

I agree, you would think that there would be one somewhere, but then again, it is a Ford, and they tend to last forever:D :D just kidding. The salvage yard is supposed to have posted it to their parts search. We'll see what happens. I have other tractors, but I like the Ford due to it's smaller size, and I like the smell of diesel.

I just called T & H in Pavo, Ga and while I had them on the phone, asked about your tube. They are going to check and call me back. Will advise if they have one. I have purchased a couple other parts from 1100/1200/1300 tractors from them, so they might have it. Never said it would be cheap, especially one they have to disassemble to get to, but if they have it, it beats your guy out there.

Salvage yard just called, they have my part ($22.00). I will go pick it up tomorrow.
