Just got back, oil tube looks in good shape, came with mounting bolts, (no copper washers?). He said since tube is mounted internally, if it leaks a little, it is still in engine. He showed me parts schematic, no washers used. Now I have something to do this weekend, other than the 100 other things I need to do this weekend.

Looking forward to the final results and just how much oil pressure you have up there.

Did a little work today on engine. First, I held oil tube up to try to match to bolts that were visible. Found 2 that matched length of tube, one was the bolt that was suspect with the copper washer, the other was up behind gear that runs cam. Removed 2 gears, one that drives injector pump, and the cam gear (I lined up timing marks first). Pic 2 is looking at hole that oils top end (this also had a bolt in it). Pic 3 shows tube bolted in place. Pic 4 (kind of blurry, zoomed in too much) shows gears with timing marks lined up. Pic 5 shows gears back in place and close proximity of oil tube (side view). Tomorrow I will make new timing cover gasket and see if I can locate a new front seal locally. I'm thinking Monday I may try to run.

I knocked the front seal out and scraped off a piece of the old gasket so I could get the same thickness. Went to 2 different parts houses in Kaufman, neither had a piece of gasket material larger than a sheet of paper, and they couldn't cross over the seal #. Napa might have a piece big enough (15"x15"). I will check with the tractor dealer Monday, and check on availability. The seal looks good, and could be re-used, but I need a gasket. The waterpump seals through the back of the timing cover gasket to the block, so I don't want coolant leaking into crankcase. Sometimes you just have to wait.

Looks like you should be getting oil up the roll pin into the rocker. Old ford auto engines sued to have the same problem and it was always gunk in the oil passages leading up to the rockers. We used to use a piece of electric fence wire to push through the oil passages to clean them out. One good reason to keep oil change intervals within guidelines.

I initially thought that too, but the towers are not drilled, the roll pin is just an alignment thing. I pulled the rocker arms off, and the shaft they pivot on is not drilled either.

Got the gasket material from NAPA. 16"x36" sheet for $4.00. Dealer said gasket from Ford was having quality issues so they weren't sending any out. They can get you a good gasket, but you have to buy the engine rebuild gasket set. I made my own. Went ahead and got new seal from dealer, cleaned up timing cover and installed. Filled with oil, new filter. Bled injectors, adjusted valves, engine cranked right up. Lots of oil on top end now. I put a pressure guage where the sending unit is supposed to go, just to see what kind of pressure I have. 50#'s. I used tractor about 3 hrs yesterday, no problems.

Congrats, Glad to see it all worked out. You are probably pretty happy that you only had to go as "deep into the engine" as the front cover to get the oil back up to the rocker arms. You can get some real work done, now that the tractor is running again.

Good job. Glad it is up and running right. That is the hardest thing to fix something that you did not tear down and put back together. To find a mistake like that is not easy when you are not very familiar with the engine in question.

Good Job and many hours of happy tractoring,

Mike
