That is a great site you have access to for the parts and diagrams. I can't join it as I am no dealer. Partspring is "similar", but it's open to the public. I have gotten an item-or-two from them.

If you get around to looking close at the 1500...the diagram that I have does not show that pin or shaft protruding from the frame like your 1700 photo does....just shows an opening. The blow-ups show the bushing or plug (one on each side of the frame member).

Post me that one for the 1500 when you want to do me another favor and I will see if it's the same as the Partspring diagram.

Hey Old,

Here we go, #27 is the bushing you need to check. By the way, I don't have any more access to anything more than you do. As soundguy said, the information I'm putting up is available to public thru their (CNH) website. I just might be able to control the information and regirgitate a bit better than average. I have a link to their (CNH) part. Partsspring is using the same info as well. I'm doing a print screen emulation and convert it to a PDF file so I can then post here. Look at the attachment as well for parts number if you need to check price and availability from your local cnh dealer. At times I just call them and give them a number and in one minute they give me the info I'm seeking.

JC,

Link to parts. On model# just type in 1500 and you're good to go

Partspring lists the #27 in parts diagram, but does not list it in the "order column" as an individual part. I'll have to get the bushings elsewhere I suppose....or manufacture something.

I am still having difficulty getting into the cnh webparts site, but I will figure that out.

Look...you guys have been great! I am an old Harley nut and stay on most of the motorcycle forums working with people and problems. I would like to think that I am as knowledgeable about Harley Davidson's as you guys seem to be on these tractors. I have owned these small tractors off-n-on, but when I purchased this little 1500...I became attached to it and decided I would bring it back to life. She is solid-as-a-dollar (for what that's worth nowadays) in the engine and drive-train department and I plan to hang onto this one. I just need to get my wrenches out and go to work on this steering slack problem and have learned a LOT from you guys.

if that link doesn't work..or tells you timed out.. hit New Holland and go for the parts search from there.. takes a couple extra step but should get you there.

also, as for saving the diagrams.. if you don't want to dot he printscreen/pdf thing, you can simply right click on the diagram and save it as a file.. usually .bmp, .gif, or .jpg depending on the browser you are using.

If you open up the attached file(double click on it) and it opens up the complete parts breakdown and parts #. I'd suggest you to call CNH and give them the part #. I bit you a bushing like that is used on several model and they can cross match and find what you exactly need.

JC,

Part#27. SBA # is the one you need.

well here's what a 15 second google search turned up for me using that bushing number:

FARMERLINK -- FORD TRACTOR PARTS 05/02/10
FORD BUSHING Item Number: A-SBA398510080 $3.12 A-SBA398510080

Agricultural & Industrial Tractor & Combine Parts - Tractor Parts - Ford - New Holland - Front Axle-Steering Parts - Spindles and Related Parts ($0.00 - $103.00) - TracParts.com

Item #: A-SBA398510080
$4.68 $3.79
Spindle Bushing

Looks like this on is A&I very common..

those were the top 2 listed.. I found about 30 other websites selling that bushing all for about the same price.. IE.. 5$ or so. just googled the bushing number.. etc..

I was able to figure out how to get to that CNH website and actually had deduced the correct part number for that bushing. I agree...looks pretty common and surprisingly cheap.....until I go down to the local dealer to buy it, then the price will triple.

I will likely take advantage of ordering it off one of these sites you guys have pointed me to. It's truly amazing what a man can do with internet access and a PayPal account!

I finally got back around to working on my NH 1500 steering slop and got to the heart of the issue. When I pulled the sector shaft out, I discovered the two "ears" are broken off the end of the shaft on the adjustment side and the shaft was pretty much just wobbling around just at the end of the inside of the cover. Now here is my dilemma.

There were two different cases (load decks) made over the course of 1979 when this tractor was introduced and 1982...and on. Looks like in 1982 they improved it and added a bushing on the output side. I have a 1980 model based on the SN, but I have a bronze bushing in the case (load deck) and the load deck has an original "cast iron" color and is not blue like the rest of the original parts. I am betting that I need the latter sector shaft and based on the description of the one I found, this is the one I ordered.

Does anybody have a clue as to what the differences would have been between the two versions? No big deal if I have ordered the wrong one. I will just have to order the "other one". I was just curious as to the difference.

Anyhow....I feel sure this will take care of my slop, or at lest what was in the steering-gear box....which was a real butt-load of slack.
