Does the oil in the crankcase look diluted? Not sure if you have power steering but I have seen a steering pump seal leak in the crankcase on Massey. Have heard of injection pump seals doing the same.

It does not look or feel diluted, but will change it to synthetic to see if that helps. Right now I have cheap traveler brand from tsc in it 15w-40.

You have a problem with exhaust valve seals or guides. I bet that guides are wore bad and/or the oil is not draining back down to the pan fast enough
Save your money for the synthetic oil till you find and fix the problem.

Boomer, I’m also wondering if that was the issue. Why do you think it is the guides and not the rings? Just curious as I am not a diesel mechanic.

When I started digging into this tractor after I bought it I discovered the pipe which supplies oil to the rocker arms was missing.

You can see the hole for the tube in the lower right side of the head.

I was able to fab a new one out of high temp ptfe tubing which seems to be working Well so far.

It was after installing this tube that I noticed the oil in the exhaust and consumption. Are the valve guides lubricated by oil leaving the rocker arm shaft?

I will look and see in the parts breakdown if there are valve seals or just guides.

Is there anyway to tell which ones are shot other than removing the head and micing everything?

Yes the valves and guides are splash lubricated.

With care you can remove the rocker shaft, and then using compressed air injected through the fuel injector hole, hold the valves closed while you remove the locks holding the valve spring in place. Now you can feel the amount of lateral movement of the valve in the guide.
Universal Overhead Valve Spring Compressor

Have the engine at the top of its stroke for the cylinder you are working on so the valves cannot drop right into the cylinder.

It is likely you can buy seals now even if they were not used originally.

I checked the parts breakdown, and it does have guide seals. It does appear they are still available, so I will put in an order with Messicks.

My Ford 1920 started doing the same thing. My dad was splitting firewood with long periods of idling. I Put a blade on the back and scraped dirt for a few hours at almost full throttle and it cleared up.

Was it burning oil though? Mine is slobbering, but is consuming oil too.

My valve seals came in yesterday, just waiting on the spring compressor now.
