Ford 1620 Deal or No-Deal??

I looked at the TC30 hydro w/7308 loader and R4 tires before I bought my TC35 last week. I got a price of $15700 for the unit.

My dealer kept telling me that a new unit was about the same price as a used one when I started out looking at used ones. He was right. The TC30 is nearly identical to the 1620 except the engine is punched out a little more to get 30hp. Other than that, they even look the same except for slightly darker paint and different decals.

Both are very reliable machines. I'd spring for the new one if I were you. Not much more money. Heck, if you don't mind gear drive you could knock $1800 or so off the price.

seems a little high we offer that same tractor for $15600.00 this includes heavy duty bucket and replacable cutting edge loaded tires, block heater, and rear work light.

Thanks Spencer, the price I quoted was from two weeks ago. I did get a price of $15,400 back in December from a different dealer (TC30 hydro, R4, loader, HD bucket). I just assumed prices went up everywhere. To make the TC30 meet my needs (wants) I would add the Drawbar kit and the cruise control kit. The dealers have told me that these are available at the parts desk. Can't seem to get the dealer interested in finding prices for these add-ons. Maybe the price will go up so high that a TC29D will make more sense.

I am also wondering if the "economy tractors" out there right now will suffer an "economy" stigma and have a low resale value. (TC30, JD790, Kubota L3000DT)

Ok, I'm just wondering out loud.

I was not aware of the cruise control being available for this tractor I will check into it, and get you a price on that and the drawbar kit.

Thanks to all. I went to a New Holland dealer today and drove a TC30 again. I was thinking of buying a used tractor with gear drive yesterday. Todays little drive reaffirmed that I am just not going to be happy unless I get the Hydro. The cheapest hydro I can get in the 30 hp range is the TC30. The loader operation is a little slow at 6gpm but as I'm only using it for home use I guess it's no big deal. I'll be selling my John Deere and shopping for price. TC30, Hydro, 4X4, HD Bucket, R4

Jerry,

How much are they asking for this set up? This sounds very much like what I'd be looking for. How does it compare to the JD790?

There is hardly a NEW tractor out there in the 30HP range that DOESN'T smoke the 790 in specs. It is J-D's economy line tractor. This tractor is still using dry drum brakes!! What you get with the 790 is green and yellow value and resale!
If you compare specs you don't get much with the 790.
It's just cold hard facts!

Quite honestly, that was my feeling. The 790 seems a lot weaker in its' 3 pt lifting capacity, and it certainly doesn't have a lot of weight behind it. Seems to me to be also at the low end for pto hp. My local JD dealer doesn't even keep any 790's on the lot to look at. I stopped out there last Saturday, and when I asked about the 790, he was able to give me a brochure and that was all.

Still, the cost IS a factor. That's why I was wondering what the pice tag was on Jerry's TC30 package.

Golfgar4, I have been quoted a few prices on the TC30 with Hydro, 7308 loader, R4. $15,400 in December at dealer #1, $15,900 in December at Dealer #2, $16,275 last week at dealer #3. I am going to see if the $15,400 price is still good if I buy one this week.

Another thing to consider about the TC30 is that it is the only 30hp economy class tractor that offers a hydro and it uses the same 7308 loader that is used on the Boomers. The 790 uses an economy loader on their economy tractor. Of course, if you prefer gear drive, the TC30 can be equipped that way as well. Oh yeah, another great thing about the TC30 is the open operator station. Lots of wide open space for your feet. Sit on a 790 and you'll see what I mean.

Ok, yeah, the TC30 also has underhood exhaust. Not a stack like the 790.

Disclaimer: I know a lot of people have a JD790 and are very happy with them. I have found that the TC30 better suits my needs and the features that I am looking for. Buy whatever gives you that satisfied feeling. Brand loyalty can be a strong part of that feeling.

One more thing...How could I forget? I just took a deposit on the sale of my John Deere 650. I got $5,000 for it and the buyer will be picking it up this friday.

What a strange feeling.

I guess I better get dealing on that TC30 so I don't end up in a tractorless void.
