Ford 1700, any help?

There are plenty of 2wd loader machines out there that beat a shovel and wheel barrow all day long!

-ANY- person that says 2wd is no good as a loader tractor simply has not shoveled and hand carted enough material in his or her lifetime to see the quantum leap of difference between doing it by hand.. and doing it with a machine that may not be awesome.. but in most cases is adequate..

Amen to that, I can do the moon walk to a pile of composted cow patties with my two wheel drive tractor and a rear scoop all long and pick up the loot. I get a crick in my neck but sure beats the heck out of a wheel barrow and a shovel... probably it take 30 shovels heaping full before I can fill the wheel barrow once, That's a lot of huff and puff and swetting for me

Yep... When i see comments like that.. it always reminds me that some people go right from not doing a task.. to doing it with a 4wd loader tractor with HST.. and not from doing it by hand to doing it with a tractor. Those having never done a task by hand do not realize how much help.. at tool.. any tool is when you are trying to reduce work. Sure.. a 2wd is a mechanized shovel and wheel barrow... sure beats a manual labor shovel and wheel barrow though!

I wished I had a loader on mine, I moved 16 yards of sand with a shovel and wheel barrow last winter. Because it was muddy the dump truck couldnt get close to where I needed it, and I had him dump it in the driveway. Then I had to move it out to the pasture and barn to do some fill work. lol I should have waited til summer when the ground was harder. I have at least since then picked up a rear dirt scoop that works well. Smaller loads yea, but it sure beats doing it by hand. I saw some loader kits that fit the 1700 for about 3k or so. They were in Oklahoma somewhere.

Looks like another person with real experience in hand work knows the value of a machine to do the grunt work.

I just bought a 1700 yesterday and the dipstick on the tranny is missing as well. Did you ever get a chance to measure the oil level in yours so we can make a substitute up?

Yes sir Bud,

There you be, look at the pic below and rig up a dipstick out of something. I like galvanized wire that they use to hang ceiling tile. They work great. I'd use a dremmel tool to make the level mark. By the way , welcome to TBN blue.

PS. The 7 inch is from the top flush. You should not turn the cap tight for measurment.

Thank you. I'll get one rigged up tomorrow and see where we are. The lift bounces like yours did and I can't tell whether it is low on oil or not but best guess is that it is the seal on the lift piston. The tractor sat up for a couple of years inside a barn.
