I am not sure but the couplings do not give enough travel to install the drive shaft. I removed the 4 bolts for the axle housing pivot. There are dowel pins for alignment. Anyway removed 4 bolts, jacked up frame to clear and rolled wheels FWD to clear driveshaft legnth.

Thank you all for the advice and tips; that was the only way I could figure that things would come apart. This is what I'll do when I get a chance. Again, your assistance is much appreciated.

Russel, do you by any chance know the torque specification for the bellhousing bolts?

I checked my book and found the list of torque based on bolt size, both standard and special bolts.

Sorry for no updates. I've got it all back together, and was waiting on my starter motor. I just got it, so I'll try to get it on tomorrow. It took much longer than I expected to do this clutch job. Horsing the front axle around to get the driveshaft tube inserted and then aligning it on the dowel pins was a chore, too. I'm hoping to see if this thing will work by the end of the week. I wonder how many other things I was misled about... The guy I brought it from said "Put a new starter motor on and it is ready to go to work...." Which was clearly a lie.

It's been an interesting project though. I really appreciate all the help so far. I think with a set of helping hands in a few places, and now that I know a little more what I'm doing, I could cut the time down significantly.

so how is it running? After following all those posts I have to hear the punchline.

It's running, but the glow plugs quit working. I've pulled each of them and tested them separately. Neither one works anymore. Having no glow plugs makes starting it bothersome, to say the least, so I haven't been using it much. However, it moves around under its own power now, and the clutch doesn't slip. I've got a couple glow plugs ordered, so hopefully that will be resolved here soon, too.

Thanks again to all those who helped me through this.
