Soaked the daylights out of her with Fluid Film (expensive but good stuff!) Today I managed to pull part of the plunger out from above. I could see the stuck piece so I got a brass piece and used it as a punch to smack it lightly from above. I took a few light taps and it snapped down where it should be. I got under it with a little pry bar and worked it up and down. She's moving up and down easily and we put it all together. Of course, the battery is dead now so we can't do much further.
At this point, I'm pretty dang happy we got it this far. I think my boy is learning a ton. Not just about diesel engines but also about patience and persistance. In the end, we may need a professional but I really don't have a problem if he's happy with it!
