Oil & Fuel Ford 1700 Injector Pump Running WIDE OPEN

Soaked the daylights out of her with Fluid Film (expensive but good stuff!) Today I managed to pull part of the plunger out from above. I could see the stuck piece so I got a brass piece and used it as a punch to smack it lightly from above. I took a few light taps and it snapped down where it should be. I got under it with a little pry bar and worked it up and down. She's moving up and down easily and we put it all together. Of course, the battery is dead now so we can't do much further.

At this point, I'm pretty dang happy we got it this far. I think my boy is learning a ton. Not just about diesel engines but also about patience and persistance. In the end, we may need a professional but I really don't have a problem if he's happy with it!

Cool I tell my boys "patience grasshoppers" and they heed my advise most of the time. I trust you'll get it to work. a professional could not use voodoo to take the plunger out. Perseverance is a great quality in life and will come handy for your son.

Patience is right. We had fair, driver's ed, graduation, a few other odds and ends in the way this summer. Monday I had a vacation day after the end of our fair so I took the injector pump down to Ottawa Lake, MI to a guy I've known as an injector pump specialist for a long time. He gave me an estimate I could live with and took it into his shop.

He called Wednesday afternoon and said it was ready. All painted up pretty Ford blue. My sons took over from there this evening. After some gasket making was complete, the older son bolted everything up the way he took it apart and then checked the timing. After a bit of fight with some yuck in a fuel line and bleeding the system, she puffed right up. A bit of fine tuning yet to do and a radiator reinstallation and they'll be out mowing, tilling, goofing, in no time!

Thanks for all the support. It came down to the fact the previous owner hadn't put oil in the pump for too long. It baked on like a varnish and gummed it all up. The rear injector kept sticking on us. For just over $300, it was worth the cheers in the driveway.

Oh yeah, in the middle of all this, the boys got our 1949 Chevy 1 1/2 ton grain truck running for the first time in 30 years and used in to help pick up about 800 bales of first cutting hay. They are having some fun!

I am glad you got thing streightened out and running well.
It has to make you proud that your sons like to get out and work on things:thumbsup:. So many kids today are afraid to get their hand dirty, They don't know what they are missing.

Thanks, Bill. They are good kids. 18 and almost 16. They jumped up and down like mad when they got the '49 Chevy running. They sneaked out and drove the 1700 around last night and put her through the paces. 4x4 will be checked out tonight.

I wanted to wait until the very end to get a pro involved because I really wanted them to see the problem solving process and also the PATIENCE process. Didn't hurt to add the saving $$ until you can get if fixed process either...Besides, you never know if it something simple enough that you can fix yourself without changing a ton of parts and a ton of cash.
