I went through all that about 8 years ago. Finally found a nice used one from Wengers. I saved the stub with braces from the original muffler because it had tons of metal still good. Now that I have TIG I plan on buying a muffler for a VW Rabbit diesel, welding on some threaded collets for the chrome guard, and welding the old stub onto the new muffler. This way I have a replacement on the shelf.

Front weights don't go on the wheels, they hang over the front bumper It will hold 3 separate weights, I think that is max load. Question, did you change the belt on the new water pump when you replaced the pump? Old belts slip even when they look good. When the tractor is off if you can rotate the fan blade by hand, the belt is not tight enough. When I replaced my water pump the pump separated and the shaft came out when I took it off. I bought my tractor new and it now has 1050 hours on it. I have never used the horn in 35 years, not sure there is even 1 on the tractor. Guess I will have to go look.

Actually these models did have wheel weights as an option.

Yes, I did replace the belt, the old one was VERY easy to turn the fan by hand (probably one of the reasons the shaft didn't fall off because the belt wasn't putting a ton of pressure on it). As mentioned by Fawken, they did have wheel weights that go on the front wheels, I believe they are 44 lbs a piece. They certainly seem to be rare as I've only seen one set on a tractor on TractorHouse (owner understandably wasn't interested in separating). There is a horn on mine, but it's a pitiful sounding thing... I will check ebay for Ford 1700 parts are you suggest!

Knock on wood, I still have my OEM water pump and 1200 hrs on my 1700. Brian, When did you end up buying yours and how much?

I got my pump (and upper/lower radiator hose) from a place on eBay called Reliable Aftermarket Parts, Inc (they are in MI). The price for the water pump was $43 and while the shaft didn't look exactly like the original, it was a 100% bolt in item. Please note that the pump came unpainted and didn't include a gasket (Reliable sells one separately for pretty cheap). Of course I can't tell you how long this one is going to last given it has about 30 minutes of time. It appears the original could possibly be rebuilt, does anyone know of a kit to do so? I've looked online to no avail. Link to the pump below:

The reason they're rare is they are a PITA. Dealers back then could put treated water in your tires and make a better profit off of that. Plus if you had a FEL you didn't need them- and if you didn't the bumper weights were a lot easier to deal with.

True enough; very happy to learn I do not have the caustic liquid in my wheels. Never understood why they would do something like besides, as you outliend, more profit.
