ford 1900 part availability

i have found a ford 1900 with 880hrs in great shape with all new tires needs glow plugs and the rear lift works but with engine running and in the up position it surges up and down, like its loosing pressure. also are parts still available for these tractors. the tractor comes with 5ft brush hog and heavy duty grader blade for $3500. thanks:thumbsup:

I have a '79 1700 w 1300 hours. I have been able to get the few parts I have needed,

Surging you describe could be needing an adjustment of the (not sure of name) limit regulator that sets the upper height limit of the lift arms. Parts should not be too bad. Price seems good with new tires.

thanks for the help. i haven't been able to mess with that valve or knob under the front of seat. it has a plus or minus sign for the direction to turn it. not sure what this does though. thanks

That is a rate of drop knob. It regulate return flow from the lift cylinder/piston thru spool valve back to the hyd reservoir which on this case is rear diffy. It is a needle valve, turning it clock wise (turtle) will restrict it so it slows return flow. Turn it CCW (Wabbit) will ioen it up more hence faster drop.

nope, just for the rate of fall, controls it by restricting the fluid leaving the cylinder

No, I don't think it has anything to do with that given a constant position. It has no spring to move erratically. It is sort of a globe valve for flow control. look at the pic below, when you turn the knob in front, the needle will change the orifice restriction in the middle hole returning the oil back to the diffy. Once the 3 point is at any given position thru a feed back arm(mechanical) the spool will be pushed to neutral position meaning all fluid is by passed thru lift spool valve to diffy. although , higly unlikely there is an over pressure relief in the lift cylinder head, if that burps a bit it causes a bit of jerky up and down.

Raise your lift to the top and then shut off the engine. Watch to see how fast the lift drops. Turn the knob all the way to minus to see if that slows the drop. If it continues to go down pretty quickly, you probably need to replace the seals in the lift cylinder. If it stops when the valve is adjust all the way to minus, then you probably have a misadjusted hydraulic control valve.
