Ford 2000 for $4500?

I am looking at what is supposed to be a real nice Ford 2000 tomorrow. Is $4500 out of line for this machine? It does not have the SOS tranny. Paint is faded some but sheet metal is all good except fenders which are fair with some rust. Runs GOOD. 4 cyl gas engine.

4500 is on the high side for that tractor. It is basically a 641 or 651/661 with different paint. The 4, 5, 6, are for 4 speed, 5 speed or 5 speed with live PTO. If it has a 5 speed with live pto and the clutch is good, it's an ok deal. If it has an all hydraulic loader, it's a good deal.

When I was looking for a tractor 15 years ago I asked some farmers I was dealing with at the time what I should get. To a man they told me whatever I get make sure it's a diesel. It was good advice. With the price of fuel what it is today, I would sure look for the higher efficiency of a diesel motor over a standard gas engine. For what it's worth.

Gotta agree with that, Koss. The day is coming when the gassers will only be kept as house pets or parade tractors; it may already be here. It just costs too much to put 'em to work.

I always loved the barking sound of a big JD two banger at work. A year or so of feeding a JD60 for a little hay work cured that illness...and that was 20 years ago.

I've still got a couple of gassers, but they're going on the block as soon as I get them straightened out a bit.
