I have a 73 Ford 3000 with a hydraulic pump that wont hold prime. I'm trying to rebuild the hydraulic pump but I cant figure out how to get the oil seal out.
I think the pump is a C7NN600Y. Everything seems simple except for the oil seal. Is there an easy way to get it out?

Got a manual? I have manuals on my year models but nothing on 70's tractors. Wobble box pump....the one with the flat plate with lots of holes and ball bearing valves? Which seal? I can go outside later and check my '65 or earlier manuals for you.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah a piston pump. Its the oil seal between the gears and the wobble plate shaft. I have a service manual (Binder). all it says is remove oil seal. Not much help.

I think the oil seal comes with the rebuild kit. The one that's in there now doesn't look bad but my pump is losing prime so It's likely it might be the culprit. But I don't wanna destroy my pump getting it out.

Your I&T style repair manuals assume the reader has basic mechanical skills. Removing a steel cased lip seal is pretty much the same no matter where it is installed. Figure out a way to drill & tap It and pull it with a sheet metal screw, bend the flange towards the I.D, and / or pry it out without damaging the support area.

Yeah guy but my 2000 is a '63 4 banger and best I recall it has a wobble box pump too. Yes I know '65 was the first year for the 3000 and as I recall the 3 cyl 2000 but I haven't looked that up lately.

Thanks. Its just tight in there with the tapered bearing seat. and you cant really tap it out from the back side because it seems to sit on a lip and theres a needle bearing in there too. So you pretty much have to destroy the oil seal to get it out?

also I have a Ford repair manual. Is an I&T manual any better?

The Ford manual is better. I'd replace the needle bearing anyway. Yes, you absolutely will destroy the seal removing it however you do it. Who cares?
