Yes, I believe it's a CAV...pics below. It says CAV and it appears to me to by a distributor type.

So is it normal to hear a pronounced metallic ticking coming from the IP?

i'll be the first to admit that I'm no expert on the 65+ machines. rickb or whodat covers those models much more extensively than I do. I'm more of a pre 65 man.

My 5000 with a cav rotary distribuitor pump doesn't click.. but that doesn't help you much I know...

are you sure it is the IP that is doing it?
