The power lift on my Ford 3000 gas was weak and jumpy so I checked the oil in the transmission it was over filled and it looked like chocolate milk. Since I did not need it I let it set for a over a month and drained it today it looked more like coffee and smelled bad. If this is water contaminated will I need to change the filter? I cant find it so is it inside the tractor? What kind of oil is "M4864M or M2C85A"? Does the transmission and rear end share oil? According to a friend he said the Ford Manual says this goes in the Transmission. If you have any ideas I would like to hear them. Thanks Bob

I use the oil from TSC in my 3000 and it works good until its really cold, 25* or lower. The trans oil is seperate from the rear diff and sump. The filter is only a paper element. Do a search, there's lots of info on those old fords. I posted a few pics of what the filter looks like. If the sump/rear diff is milky, I'd bet 2:1 the trans is the same. There's 2 drain plugs on the bottom of your machine. You might have to flush the system depending on how much water is in there.

Thanks City Farmer I searched for a transmission flush and "Yesterday Tractor" came up. I got some good ideas.

I decided to flush the transmission on the Ford today and things went good. I filled the transmission with diesel fuel and let it run a few minutes while working the power lift. After I drained and refilled the trans to the proper level the power lift was still very jumpy. I drove it for a couple miles and by the end of the trip the power lift was smooth.However I didn't have any load on the 3 point hitch. I let you know if it works as it should. Bob
