ford 3400 stalling when hot

no there is a fuel pump on the front of the timing cover on the side the gen. is on

ditto what WD said... just follow the fuel line from tank to carb.. at least that is how it should be anyway..

Yes the coil says it required a resistor wire, from schematic drawing i concluded 2nd wire attached to positive terminal was a resister wire. I tried plowing again 6/2, ran and worked for approx 45 minutes. Then it acts as if no fuel is coming in. Wait 5 minutes and will start and run for 30 seconds then out of fuel again. Ran ok last year on 100% gas. I am going to buy some 100% gas again, nearest station approx 50 miles away. Thanks for the ideas. Joe

Your coil is overheating and you need to put a resistor in the primary circuit. Next time it stops, immediately get out of the seat, pull the center wire out of the distrinbutor cap, hold it to a good ground and try to start.You should see a FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, the color of lightning. If you do then fuel is the problem most likely and if you don't then the coil is overheating and shorting internally.

do you think they could have found a farther away spot for a fuel pump? When it died 6/4 and 6/5 both times the coil was only slightly warmer than the air. I pulled out the in tank filter today then flushed tank with garden hose, a lot of junk came out, filter looked in good shape. will reassemble mon. or tues. Tractor seems to idle smoothly when sitting but very rough when under load, even just driving effects it. Thanks again, Joe

for gassers.. I like pre 1965.. for diesel.. I like post 1964...

them 3 cyl/ holley carb gas setups are just a mess when it comes to troubleshooting..

I finaly got some plowing done! I replaced the coil and plugs, cleaned out the fuel tank and filters and then it wouldn't run at all. I removed the fuel line from the carb and turned the key- lots of fuel flowing. Apparently when the float was going up and down the valve pin was not going with it. Stuck in up postion (closed). I removed and cleaned, put back together and it fired right up. Put in 4 hours of plowing no problems. Thankyou to all who offered ideas and expertise. at moment of death.. check sparks. if it has sparks.. move on to fuel.. post back
