Ford 3600 Proofmeter/Tach

The Tach on my 1977 3600 just stopped working. I made sure the cable is not broken. The failure must be in the Proofmeter Driveshaft Adapter (PDA). Has anyone replaced one of these? Appreciate any advice you have. This tach worked fine but became erratic (bouncing) and suddenly stopped working while I was running the tractor.

I'll have to drain the oil and remove the oil filter in order to remove the PDA.:irked: I'm sure the dealership will be very reasonable on the price.

Remove what you are calling the PDA and replace the short cable within. Also change the o-ring that seals the unit to the block. No need to drain the crankcase, just spin the filter off.

Thanks Rick. You were spot on. The short cable was broken within the PDA (just calling it what the Ford Service Manual calls it).
Small amount of oil leaked out when removing the filter...no big deal and didn't have to drain the CC.

As for my comment relative to the dealership...it was spot on as well. Yes, I purchased from the local New Holland dealership...ouch!!!!
