We were told about changing the ground wire from the top of the starter to the bell housing, our ground wire goes from the negative side of the battery to the top side of the starter that runs through the bell housing..are you suggesting to run an additional wire at the same point on the starter to a location on the bell housing? As previously said, our negative ground runs from the negative side of the battery to the top side of the starter housing to the bell housing..
We have been working on this tractor and it seemed the fuel needed bled...as we were working through that issue the tractor started and run for about 5 minutes, then died, since then we cannot get a click at all as though its going to try to start..nothing at all..the glow plug lights up as it has been doing, but nothing at all after that..
This tractor has been sitting for several years, drained all the bad fuel and changed the fuel filter...
need any ideas and assistance out there please...seems we can't get anywhere!

Thank you

It seems you have several problems. The starter won't turn the engine over and it only rund for five minutes whe it does start. A sjim points out, the starter circuit has a neutral safety switch so that you can not start in gear. The switch is located on the shift cover. The hi/lo lever must be in the neutral position for there to be continuity between the batteryand the starter solenoid. The red light is for the charging system as I don't believe your tractor has glow plugs. that light will come on when you turn the key to the run position. The possible causes for a failure to turn over is open circuit in the safety switch circuit to the colenoid, bad chasis ground connect, corroded battery terminals /cable connection, internally corroded cables dirty connection to the solenoid, bad ground betweeen starter case and the chasis, weak battery, failed solenoid and finally the starter is bad. If the starter turns but the engine does not, then the starter drive is bad. Check the battery connection, all the connections to the solenoid etc. and the cables and grounds first. they are the most likely to be the culprits. The first thing I suspect when you try to start and hear only a click is the battery terminals and the grounds. But your machine has been sitting unused so their are probably a few other possibilities.

Running for only five minutes suggests a fuel starvation issue. This is often caused by crud in the fuel tank outlet, a damaged fuel line or a partilly clogged fuel filter
