I wanna see some pics once this baby is done. If you want input on paint I can give you some information to mull over. My 3910 should be done next month. Nothing like a old Ford tractor.

Were doing the decals so yes all metal is done now. I will try to get some new pics for you this week.

By the way i was reading your post regarding the balancer. Does my 4000su have this? Im asking as the engine runs rough during certain rpms and smooth during other rpms. Having a hard time figuring out what the problem is.

Camshaft rear cover with o ring a couple dabs of silicone is a plus

Rear motor cover I forgot to get a pic there is a cork gasket that goes between it and the back of the motor it covers around rear main seal torque bolts to 25-30 ft lbs

Motor installed little truck to help line the motor up lift with engine hoist put four bolt in corner slots spin crank shaft and push while spinning

Time for some timing very easy. most important thing is make sure your not 180 degrees out on your cam. very simple number 1 and 4 piston is top dead center put two push rods in no.4 and turn your cam left then right both rods intake and exhaust should rise in either direction this lets you know you are on a compression stroke.

Also remove your cam gear to put your front motor plate on the your injection pump is hooked to all four bolts that hold it on should torque 13-18 ft lbs I did mine to 20
Lets start with the injection pump time these two notches will line up on injection pump shaft and housing
Leave injection pump gear bolts lose so shaft doesn't spin when aligning gears

At this point you can right inj pump gear bolts injection pump to idler gear or camshaft drive gear same thing note how the dots line up they don't really just count the tooth and groove

Connecting rods are level you can take a straight edge and see how they line up if 180 out exhaust valve will be open on no.1

great thread thanks for all the pics and details. I have a 5000 that I just did a compression test on and it only has about 220psi on each cylinder so it looks like I am going to need to do a rebuild. what did you use for a rebuild kit? I have found tisco brand kits for around 500ish on tractorpartsexpress that include pistons rings bearings and all gaskets. are these good quality parts? are there better ones to go with?

I'm not really sure to tell you the truth man but I bought all mine from agkits.com all the parts iv bought from them were in spec but tisco I think are good parts too may want to check Madisontractor.com always have been right on with bushings and bearings when iv ordered

TISCO is a good company, They have been in business a long time and have been supporting these older tractors since they were new.

and supporting some of them with some pretty cruddy equipment too!

tisco points are about the worst you can get on the planet!

I know it has been a long time since this post and I just saw it the 4000su is a 3 cylinder so no it does not have a balancer only 4 cylinders
