On finding mine on my 3000 the first time, I just followed the small tube from the fuel tank. You can watch it function on the 3000 if you pull the air inlet hose from the intake manifold and look inside. The coil will turn red, the valve will open, it will start slobbering fuel on the red coil and burning droplets of fuel will fall from it.....add some suction from the starter spinning the engine and wala.....fire in the hold.

Yes, the cold start button on the fuel pump seems to be working OK. Just a lot harder to crank this winter than last.

Is you battery and starter in good condition. Are the connections from the battery to the starter and the ground "bright and tight"?

Yes, the speed that it spins and time it will spin seems normal. The starter is only a couple of years old. That was replaced troubleshooting a starting issue that turned out to be an intermittent break in the wire from the switch to the solenoid. Very difficult to troubleshoot. That's why I checked that voltage was getting to the Thermostart.
