what I've got is 641D ford.. Now i need to find new generator or convert to alternator. old one doesn't gen.

could just be a voltage regulator???? Those are cheap.

Now for the tractor, are you happy with the price you paid for it. Because I'd be pretty upset if I though I bought a 62HP (engine) tractor and found out it was a 48hp tractor.

motor test the genny.. if it motor tests good.. might just need a new reg.. or even wireing.

that should be a 12v gen from the factory. you can get new ones from india for about 90$.. regs are 25-40$

Or you can convert to an alt with a tisco bracket set and a 55$ delco 10si 3 wire ( prefered ) alternator.. go with an idiot lamp setup if you go to an alt. don't get the 1-wire jobs... imho..

Oh yeah... i started typing and forgot this was a diesel. In that case it would be a good idea to check the gen.

think i want to change to alternator instead of keeping generator. need source for one that works on diesel. should it be one or three wire?

IF the tach is driven off the generator, you will either loose the tach, or it will be more $$$ to go to an alternator w/tach drive vs just replacing the genny.

Soundguy knows what alternator is compatible, I am sure he would be along shortly. Personally, I'd find out for sure if it is the genny or the v-regulator. And even if both are bad, you likely cannot convert to an alternator w/tach drive for less money than just replacing BOTH the generator and v-reg. But odds are, they both arent bad
