if it's a 641d it has the tack driven off the hydro pump. 65+ machines had the tach on the gen.

got a new question . What makes a tractor an ether baby? it takes ether to get it to crank up. It's 85 degrees and should start on its own.

most tractors that are addicted to ether have low compression. could be from wear.. or it could be a self causing issue with over use or improper use of start fluid. It can ruin pistons and cranks.. blow ring lands off.. etc...

Usually a sign of an engine getting tired. Once shes fired up and warm, if you shut it off for 5 minutes, does it restart without the ether? 85 isnt really warm in engine terms. But on a fresh diesel, you should be able to start down to about 45-50 without a starting aide (IE: glow plugs, ether, or block heater)

thanks for info. i was afraid it was getting weaks great after started. plenty of power, but needs ether even after 20 minutes off.

if it needs ether to restart after being shutdown for 20m on a warmed engine.. she's getting VERY tired...

or has an injector leaking donw and the ether spins her up to prime and fire quick..

Your injection pump is equipped with a cold-start device. At startup this device will advance the pump about 5deg. If this feature is not functioning it will probably not start on its own. You will require a diesel timing meter to determine if it is functioning correctly.

During cranking is the exhaust white? This could indicate that your glow plugs are not functioning, injectors are carboned over, or lack of compression.

I have found that additives from Power Service fulfill the tasks that they advertize. Unfortunately I have never found miracle in a can.
