Ford 8N crankshaft pulley wiggle and a clicking noise arising up front

As suspected, the pulley is tightly bolted to the crankshaft and probably bent. Don't know if this is a new problem or if I just noticed it.

What happens when rpm are increased in terms of the clicking sound?

Seems I recall my buddy saying that a PO of his 9N didn't get the notch in the pulley aligned on the crankshaft key, before tightening, and it also had a bad wobble. Gave it some hammer therapy setting on a old piece of heavy shafting, and straightened it out, dressed with a file, and eliminated the wobble.

The ticking noise is one of two possible sources - First thing to check is valve lash. The other source is a liner that is loose and moving up and down with the piston. Obviously, the valve adjustment should be your first move. Loose liner can be verified by pulling the head. Don't run it too much longer before checking the valves. If it is a loose liner, it will eventually wind up in the oil pan.

The loose sheet metal pulley is fairly common. If memory serves, they were riveted to the crankshaft hub. The right way to fix that is replace it with a one piece machined pulley. I replaced mine during an overhaul so I couldn't say if you have to pull the axle for replacement. This needs to be addressed fairly soon because the pulley will eventually part ways with the hub and may ventilate the radiator - Best scenario is it will just overheat. If your luck is like mine, it will happen when you are at the farthest point from the barn.

It's not complicated to remove the front axle and radiator. But it is some work.

When the throttle is opened up, the clicking sound appears to become more faint or to disappear entirely.
