Ford 8N...Should I?

If you want one of the older Ford tractors, I suggest looking at something like an 860 series or above. They have a live pto and a 5 speed tranny. If you can find one with power steering will be even better. My :2cents:

Also, if you plan to use a tiller with this tractor then I would suggest finding something else. Even with the 5 speed tranny, the ground speed is too fast to use a tiller.

After reading all the replies, many make sense in that it 1) gas doesn't keep long, 2) I'd have to keep two separate fuel cans and 3) no live PTO. Thinking this through, I've decided to look at a Massey Ferguson 135 as another option.
Either of those will make a nice second tractor. Although the nearest fuel station is 20 miles away I never really consider the part about storing fuel; there isn't a tractor made which will run without it, after all. I keep on hand 10 gallons of diesel and 5 gallons of ethanol free gas which I treat when I buy it... when a can gets empty I refill it on the next trip through town.

My only tractor is a 1957 ford 851. It leaks oil like it free and needs to be held in reverse. But it has a front bucket and starts in -10*F. It sits outside un covered with un stabilized fuel all year long. I prob use it 3hrs a month now.

Its got its quarks and problems but it works and i dont even change the oil in it any more...just add. Around here they can be had for about $2500 in decent condition so its not worth putting a set of rear tires on it, fixinging the rear main seal or any of the other quarks when i could just buy a different one
