I have side mount distributor I am going to some voltage test today cables are new

Then you have no resistor.
And what size are the cables?? Voltage drop is a much bigger concern on 6v than it is on 12v

It is side mount I just checked the voltage on battery and there is 6.28 volts and I is a 6 volt system

6.3 is nominally correct since we are talking 2.1 volts per cell.

Now clamp/hold the meter on the battery, and hit the starter and see what the voltage drops to?

also put a volt meter from bat hot to starter hot andf measure vdrop.
on a 6v system.. you don't want to see more than 1.5 normally.. and 2 max. that means you should be leaving 4.5v to the coil and a minimum of 4.. etc. less than that on the round coil systems and you will get weak spark.
the front mount have a more rudimentary coil.. and it can operate with coil voltages ( at the coil ) of 2.5-3v with 2.5 being poor spark.. etc..
