Ford door remote programming

Have 2002 F-150. Have 2 OEM door fob remote transmitters and 1 of them still works but pretty beat up appearance wise. Bought 2 new aftermarket and have read instructions in owner's manual. My question is, if I just program the new ones will they be programmed with same codes as OEM or does the truck send out a completely new code and OEM and new ones all need to be programmed for all 4 to be functional?

They should all work. I had 4 for my last truck.

It's a one way system, the fob sends out the code and if it's correct, it unlocks the doors. The fobs are only a transmitter, and each one sends out a unique code. When programming a new fob, the truck's BCM registers the new fob's code as a valid code to unlock the doors. I've programmed new fobs to my '06 F150 a couple of times with no problems.

Well, tried just registering the new fobs and that worked for them but deactivated the OEM ones. Had to go through procedure again this time with all 4 fobs and that set all remotes to same code. Guess the OEM had to get new code sent like aftermarket ones.

That's weird.. May be due to the model year and old software, but on my 2019 F150 at the time, I just put the new fob in and programmed it. The other 2 stayed working, no problems.

When I got a fourth from the dealer, it came already programmed via VIN, also no problems - Which is actually kinda scary.

Fords typically will store 3 or 4 fobs before pushing them off the back side.

On the older F150s the programming wipes the memory and relearns whatever fobs you cycle through, so you’ve got to have all of them on you when you do it. Once they’re all taught again, they all work fine.
