Wise choice. Many people are missing the boat not buying a Tundra. Between a F150 and Tundra... there is no comparison.

I can't believe people are on here complaining about F-150s at 70,000 miles! Or bragging they have 70,000 trouble free miles! With a Tundra they are just getting broke in at 70,000 miles! Lol!

Toyota recently bought a Tundra back from a man that worked in the oil well fields. His truck had an excess of 1,000,000 miles! And didn't have a darn thing wrong with it. Toyota traded a brand new Tundra for it so they could tear the truck apart to study the components.

I have to bring my wife's 2014 F150 in for the brakes tomorrow. Within the first 20K miles, the front rotors warped. Finally, after I drove it and realized how bad it was at 40K, I brought it in and had the fronts done. They turned the rotors and put on new pads. They must have screwed something up, because it's only been 5K and when I drove it last week I heard an awful grinding and saw she was metal to metal on the drivers side with the rotor pretty chewed up. There's also been a recall for the master cylinder. I've never been real impressed with the brakes on the F150.

A buddy of mine bought the exact same truck, 2 months before me and it's his wife's daily driver too. He's had the exact same issue (we must have the same wife's ).

I'll agree about the Tundra... We've owned a few and currently own a 2011. Excellent trucks, dependable, low cost of ownership.

I really like my 07 F450 PowerStroke but i have to "work" at liking/loving it. I've already spent a ton of money on it (full BulletProof) but there's always something else to spend money on with it. If Toyota made a heavy truck, I'd trade in my F450 today.

I like my recently acquired 89 F250 plow truck... But it's a true beater throw away truck. Luckily it's easy to work on... And parts are still readily available.

Most of my family drives Ford's... Likely because much of my family works/retired from Ford (my grandpa actually worked for Ford tractor division too). We've got a bunch of newer F150's in the family currently, and for the most part, they seem to be pretty reliable. The interiors are definitely much improved over the other Ford trucks I've owned (I've owned 8 Ford trucks personally).

Overall, I think that you'll get about the same ownership experience from any of the 1/2 ton offerings from Ford, GM, Dodge... I'd lease any of them. But if buying, I'd go with a Tundra any day.

When I was shopping for a new truck in 2012, Toyota didn't make a long bed with an extra cab truck. Only short beds, so that wasn't even an option for me. They where also having a lot of recalls because of their engines. I forget what it was exactly, but it was pretty big news at the time. While I've always been a fan of Toyota, I always end up buying something else when I start comparing them and reading up on the reviews.

I just bought my wife a Chrysler mini van. For a Toyota with leather seats and power doors like hers, they wanted $9,000 more.

There weren't any engine recalls that I remember hearing...

They did offer an 8ft bed with the extended cab option.

The 5.7 engine was blowing up, or failing, or whatever you want to call it. I don't remember the fix, or why it was happening, but if you say Toyota didn't recall any of their trucks because of their engines, I wont' argue with you about that. I don't remember all the details since I don't have one.

I don't know where they offered the long bed and extended cab. The dealer where I live didn't have one and when I searched online, I couldn't find one. To this day, I have never seen one. But if you say so, that's good enough for me.

Timing chain stretch ... interesting. Tell me more. My '09 V10 has a tick or slap at idle however with a few RPM's it goes away. A couple of mechanics have assured me the noise is coming from the top end of the engine and not the bottom. Lucas oil stabilizer made it much quieter on last oil change.
I've found Castrol High Mileage to work wonders for old timers. My Outback 6 cylinder just turned 214,000.
