Ford F150-I'm Done.

When I was shopping for a new truck in 2012, Toyota didn't make a long bed with an extra cab truck. Only short beds, so that wasn't even an option for me. They where also having a lot of recalls because of their engines. I forget what it was exactly, but it was pretty big news at the time. While I've always been a fan of Toyota, I always end up buying something else when I start comparing them and reading up on the reviews.

I just bought my wife a Chrysler mini van. For a Toyota with leather seats and power doors like hers, they wanted $9,000 more.

Pay now or pay later. (0: You won't find too many unhappy Toyota owners.

Will be interesting to see how many miles you get on the van.

We just got back from a hunting trip to Paris, Tx. My buddy wanted to take his newer tundra with the 5.7 since it has so much leg room. Well the ride was tolerable but the fuel mileage was horrible. Turned one of the guys off wanting one for that reason. I'm thinking it was around 10-12 highway. We were stopping twice a day for fuel and it's a 4.5-5 hr drive. He said the tank was small that was ridiculous. Lindsay's truck gets atleast 540-560 per tank

Brett
That's strange... I've had 3 Tundra's, one with the smaller 4.7 v8 and 2 with the 5.7. The 4.7 averaged 14 mpg mixed and 16 on highway trips. Both 5.7's average 14.7 mpg mixed and 17-18 mph on highway trips (that's with just the family, dog, misc luggage, and a Leer cap... Not pulling anything other than the small boat).

Fuelly seems to mirror that also.

Does your friend have an 8" lift and 35" tires, and drive 90+ mph on the highway? Seems unbelievable to average 10-12 unless he's trying to do it

I understand. Anymore, I search the country to find the vehicle (or whatever item) that I want. My last two HD Ford trucks came from Colorado and Texas. My Tundra was in Ohio. My last two tractors were Wisconsin and Virginia. Not worth settling... Work harder to find the truck or item u really want and have it brought to you, or go get it (the way I see it anyhow)

I just looked. You can only get the 8' bed Access Cab on the SR model which is the lowest trim available. I didn't realize that they made that model either, I don't think I've ever seen one. I also noticed that some trim packages only offer the crew cab with 5.5' bed (higher level trims).

Not trying to argue here, but Look at this on eBay... 217 Toyota Tundra Double cab long bed | eBay

Well either way it's a rare item. Their website must be missing information. I did not know they made that configuration. I know for a fact when I bought my truck it was very hard finding a crew cab with a 6.5' bed (like 2-3 in Houston).

He was going 70-75. It has aftermarket wheels but I don't think the tires are much bigger than stock if anything. He said it had 4.33 gears which seem really steep (new 450 I ordered comes with 4.30) but don't know if that's out of the norm for gassers. When he pulled his 30' Bp camper I think he was saying it was around 6 mpg we are pretty flat around here in SE Texas too

Yeah I believe 4:30 is the gear they use in the 5.7. Sounds like his truck is an anomaly, most guys on the forums are getting about what I get for mileage.

I've got a 2016 Tundra with the 5.7 4x4 and get about 14.7 mpg mixed and 17-18 mpg highway. I do wish it got better mpg. When shopping, by the time I configured an equivalent ford/chevy/dodge for towing capability the price was 10k or more higher than the toyota. Toyota is behind in the electronic gizmos, but I try to avoid them anyway. It's to new for me to personally comment on reliability, but I have high expectations. Good luck to the op with shopping. I hope you find something that works for you.

Sorry to hear about your F150 troubles, guys. A bit of a surprise to me, as I have had 4 of them (2008, 2010, 2014, and my current 2016), and they have all been great. All 5.4's or 5.0's, all 4 x 4 XLT Supercrews (with the XTR option on a couple of them). And all got better mileage than my wife's Honda Pilot!
