Ford f250 5.4

If the plug blowing out are a internet myth, why does Snap-on sell two specific kits for the triton engines? One to rethread the spark plug hole and the other to remove half of the spark plug when it breaks trying to remove it? I also saw myself of two occasions of this happening, both were original plugs installed by the factory on two different trucks.

It does happen. The 2 valve motors can spit them. The 3 valve motors tried to fix the spitting issue which they did but they created another issue with stuck plugs that can snap when removed.

My dad bought a new F250 with the 5.4L in 2000. It was the most reliable light truck we had in our construction business. Towed a 10,000 lb trailer many times. We had 4, 5.4Ls and they were all great. There is a big power difference from 2004-2005 models. It is a joke how many people bash this engine. It has quite a bit more power than the 5.8L 351 that it replaced, which was also a good engine. I will say though, in a crew cab pulling a maxed out trailer, I would prefer a 6.8L V-10.

No, no spark plug blowing out problems...but there is (was, at least) a lot of problems with spark plug breakage when replacing them...enough of a problem that Ford came out with a special tool and specific process for changing the plugs.

I like the 5.4 engine...in an F-150 (which is what I own). Not sure it would be a good engine in one of the Super Duty Fords (F-250 and F-350).

If you are looking early 200X models, you'll want the 4.10 axle if you want to tow 9100 odd pound. 3.73 was rated something like 7800lb.

ZF-5 5-speed with granny low and OD was the manual box in those. I'd pass on the 4R100 anyways. you could get a ZF-6 on a later 5.4 (2007?) and I think 2009 or 2010 was the last year for a manual trans super duty.

Your right a 5.4 will out run a 5.8/ 351W. The 5.4 is a way better engine than the 5.8. The 5.4 handles a 3/4 ton truck as good as what the other brands offered at the time.

We found a truck that we both like. 2003 ford f250 xl 5.4 6 speed 4x4. It's not a crew cab but it's what he liked and what I liked. It only has 40,000 miles!

Hopefully it will. The truck is in great shape and drives well. I am pleased. We are going to hook it up tomorrow and see how it tows. We need to move the 35d mini ex.

The 5.4 liter is a pig, but it will get the job done. Make sure you get the 4:10 gears.

Gee, glad the spark plug blow out is a myth. That means my factory installed plug didn't really blow out 500 miles from home. 2001 truck, had 90k on it.

It was all a terrible dream........
