ford f350 6.0

   / ford f350 6.0 #21
I will take one this fall when I pull it from the lake. 25,000# from a dead stop on a 30 deg boat ramp. Pull it at 55 mph 30 miles to the storage barn. Walks up the ramp in 4 low.

I guess you live in town or something. I can drive 10 miles from my home in any direction about any day of the week and see someone pulling a big load with all three makes of trucks. Nothing to see a guy around here pulling a dozer or a BH on a Pintle trailer.

Chris

I see it everyday, some times 3-4 times a day. Our hot shot driver brought us a case 1150 dozer behind an 06 F350 4x4. Another brought my John Deere 4020 with wheel weights and loader behind his 1 ton Ram. Plenty of loads north of 25000 around here. Not real safe, but they do it. I personally pulled a 5020 John Deere with loaded duels on a 32ft GN 16 miles behind a 2004 F350 with a 6.0 borrowed from a friend. The truck had north of 200k miles when I did this. As I said before, the early 6.0s had issues, maybe 40-50%. The 05-06 a pretty solid. The local diesel shop sees a few every now and then, but not very often. I am surrounded by big time farmers. 50% have dodges, 30% have ford, most with 6.0s, and about 20% have GMs.

My has a 2006 f350 6.0 and never any issues, now my buddies 2006 f350 6.0 is always braking down on him, seems everytime i turn around its something new and im having to take the trailer and go get him.Well I have a 99 f350 7.3 and it is now in the shop injector cups are cracked, witch lead to injecton pump needing rebuilt and the injectors are getting tested.7.3 has (143000 miles). You know you gotta run certain antifreeze and I never check what they were using when regular maintance was done by shop!!**** I didnt know:DGuess they didnt know either

I was offered 15K for my 03 F350 dually 4x4 crew...
It was the last of the great 7.3's...
Early 03's had the 7.3 and then Ford changed to the 6.0...

As far as towing, stock my 7.3 is rated @ 250 HP and 525 lb.ft. of torque...
I am running an 80 HP programmer with high flow intake and exhaust...
With 4.10 rears I pull with ease...
Never put it on a dyno but stated HP is 330 with 650 lb.ft. of torque...
I will put my 7.3 up against any 6.0 on the road, any time, any day, any week...

Looking forward to this... No questions on integrity, but will enjoy the video.

Don't know where the boat is but I'm not far from Daleville/Muncie (from your sig) and grew up over there. If you have any concerns about breaking down I can bring my 5.4 F250 for backup

Happy Towing...

We keep the boat at Brookville. Its my uncles. We have also pulled it with his 2005 F-350 V-10 4.30 gears. He gets 1/2 the mpg I do pulling it for him.

Weight is nothing, its the width. We get wide load permits due to it being nearly 13' wide. Take it up to Richmond Indiana via 101. Few hills but nothing for a diesel truck or even that V-10. My uncle bent a 2" draw bar on his truck down at a 45 deg angle before we upgraded his hitch to a Titan 2.5" unit also.

I once saw a guy pull a 28,000# 14' x 42' House boat. That was the weight of the boat alone. He was using a late 90's model F-250 4x4. Yes, a F-250. He just pulled it up the ramp and about 1/4 mile. The boat had a hole in it and hey had it on a home made trailer that was built out of a 5 axle house trailer frame. I would guess the trailer to be 6,000# alone and the boat had water in it nearly 8" deep by the 14' wide rear and about 8-10' for and aft. Not sure of the weigh of the water but the total load had to be near 35,000#.

When he to to the top of the ramp the water came forward in the boat and it ripped all 8 bolts that mount the hitch right out of the frame.

I will put my 7.3 up against any 6.0 on the road, any time, any day, any week...

Weight it down to where it weighs 8700 pounds and then take it to the local drag strip. Include video of the run and time slip. As I said, mine's been posted here for years. Unless you can run in the 13's in the 1/4, don't bother posting because everyone will just laugh at you. Feel free to post any time, any day, any week

I bought a truck...
Not a dragster...
Speed limit is 55 around here...
70 on the interstate...
Never took my camper and truck to the drag strip...
No need to...
I pull my camper to the mountains and to the beach...
It does fine...
1/4 mile times to me are irrelevant for a towing truck...
Evidently, they are very important to you...
Hook em up, go up Ridgecrest on I-40 or up 221 to Linville...
My truck does just fine with 10K#...
I am sure that your truck would do fine also...

You threw out the challange trying to imply the 6.0 PSD is not up to your 7.3. I simply called your challange. I don't need to tow any camper, my current RV has a Cat C11 diesel that pushes it along just fine. The 7.3 PSD trucks I had were so bad that they drove me to drive a Dodge with a 5.9 for almost 10 years. It was a great truck by the way. However, as trucks age they will not be worth the expense after about 10 years or so because no matter how great any engine is, the rest of the truck will wear out if it's used. My only MAJOR, and it was major, expense with my Dodge was buying a transmission that would hold up. The 7.3 Fords share that exact same problem.

I had a leaking skirt gasket on my '06 F350 4X4 crew cab dually when I bought it, but it was covered under warranty. When it was replaced I had the tech, who lives, breathes and eats, diesel truck pulling install ARP head studs and a couple other little things. He told me that I'd have to try to tear it up and even then I'd have a hard time. Three years later with nearly 600 hp, it runs perfectly, will tow well more than it was designed to tow and has been 100% reliable. The transmission has been bullet proof as well. Combine that along with decent fuel mileage and I don't see how you could ask for more; especially when the truck is still worth more than I paid for it since I bought it when we had our first fuel prices topping $5 a gallon for diesel.

I'll keep this one for about 10 years like I've done with all my trucks that have been good trucks and then I'll evaluate what's on the market then. I have absolutely no clue what will be my choice in 6 or 7 years. About the only manufacturer that will be off the table for me is GM.

All that water can make a big difference. That's why I keep drain plugs on the boat keyring. Won't go into details on how I learned that lesson years ago...

Brookville is about the only nice place nearby for the larger boats in our area also. Good lake but gets a bit crowded for me sometimes.

I'm not doubting you one bit, but my experience working on 6.0L Fords has been the opposite. Guys around here brag that they went 100k before they replaced the injectors or headgaskets or FICM or whatever. I'm sure that their are plenty of reliable 6.0L trucks out there, I just haven't seen very many.

I really don't care for the power delivery either. They just don't lug(neither does the 7.3) like a 5.9. It's really amazing how that little Cummins feels like a much bigger engine.
