I imagine the Ecoboost is pretty much limited on how high you want to go on boost. I bet with some drag radials and just a tune it might even get in the 12's but I'm not sure how long it would last at those power levels.

You are correct.
12.53 to be exact. According to my calculations, shaving 700 lbs with the aluminum body would put this tune right at 12.00 seconds.

12.53 is with Nitrous or Meth injection. They were able to run 13.86 without. 14.74 stock....

The new Hemis run mid to low 14's stock, high 13's with just the torque management defeated.

So which truck is quicker again?

+1 same point I've been trying to make. The EcoBoost isn't a bad truck but it's not the best at everything like DP and others would lead you to believe.

I haven't researched the hemi with the 8 speed to be honest. I know with the 6 speed the ecoboost would beat it. Install an ecoboost in a ram truck with an 8 speed and I would bet a case of beer the ecoboost would win. I'll have to read up on the 8 speed equipped version and also see what the lighter F150 does. I have read that towing a trailer the ecoboost outperforms the hemi in acceleration tests even with the 8 speed. Pretty close race for sure and both are great power trains. I just prefer the lower revving ecoboost but to each his own.

Yeah, very common distance for tests, 281 feet. I know for a fact if you shove all the trucks off a cliff the Ram is the first one to the bottom because of its low drag.

Now thats funny...

Back to partially the subject of the thread, does anyone expect Ford to be able to increase the MPG of the 2.7L Eco in the next few years in the F150?

Maybe. If the put the rumored 9 speed transmission in. On the other hand the 2.7 may just not be enough engine for the truck and having to boost all the time and not be capable of getting any better fuel mileage.

My hemi runs on 4 cyl on the hwy most of the time. So in effect that's 2.8L. It's worth about 2 mpg. I'm not sure why ford projected such big increases in mileage for this new motor. It doesn't make sense.

Yes. You have to remember both the 2.7 and 3.5 are the first versions of these engines. They will be used for many years with many changes over time. That and the new 9 and 10 speed tranny and we will see big gains.

I'm not sure what Ford projected but it still gets 18% better Highway and 30% better combined running on all six and using 87 octane than the hemi 8-speed. Give the ford and 8-speed and the gap widens. The 8-speed gave the Ram about a 2 mpg boost when it came into the picture. If you have a 6-speed hemi the gap is 38% combined.

Don't get me wrong, the hemi will spank this motor performance wise. To really show the improvement compare it to Ford's own 5.0 liter using the same transmission and vehicle. You will see similar numbers with basically no performance difference. 30% fuel saving is pretty big in my pocket book.
