Boy I realy love those Newfoundlands. They seem like nice dogs. Do they have any bad points?

I got three dogs myself. No pictures though. The boys, 2 beagle/lab mutts, and the old man, a shelty/lab mutt.

My wife and I both work long hours so these guys are locked
up for extended periods of time. Here's a shot of their indoor
kennel built into the back of the garage. This enclosure is heated in the winter and cooled with the central air in the summer. I tied into the ductwork that is running under the stairs to the bonus room above the garage. FRom the indoor kennel, they have a dog door that exits out the back of the garage to the outside kennel. 10' x 16' chain link

They should appreciate that cooled/heated kennel. That is a nice setup.

Good for you. I really like people that take care of their animals like that. The breeder we bought our GSP from had the nicest kennel setup. I knew we were buying from good people when I saw how nice they cared for the dogs.

Paul - I have to say they are a fine breed. Their temperament is every bit the "gentle giant" of the nickname.

I personally think the only bad point is they don't live long enough/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. Common with giant breeds.

A festidious housekeeper may have trouble with the drool which can sometimes be found on the walls and ceilings. The occasional looper past the your head keeps things interesting/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif. Drool towels are strategically placed around the house. IMHO......Small price to pay for an all around wonderful breed. Or should I say a big price.....I had to buy the BX22 to dig Sam a swimmin' hole. C

We spend most weekends in the summer at the cape, so we have a lot of water. Plus when the boat dies, it can tow us to shore./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I have been thinking of getting one, that or a yellow lab. But its hopefully a few years away.[I wont get anouther till the three I have are gone.]

The longevity is getting better as conscientious breeders work on good breeding techniques. It was 8-10 years but now its up to 10-12 years. Seeing more and more in the 12 + years which is a great thing.

I grew up with a yellow lab and Toby was a great dog too. The Newfie(working group) has a different disposition than the Lab(sporting group). My Lab would chase a squirrel right off the property and keep going. The Newfie will chase to the property line and stop. The energy level is quite different too. A Newfie would be happy sleeping 18+ hours a day so it takes a little coaxing sometimes to get his exercise.

When it come time, just do some research and I'm sure you'd be fine whichever road you go down.

Thanks, Hopefully I got some time. The old man is about 13 and is getting pretty slow, but the boys are 9 and have all the engery in the world.

I got my new camcorder last night so here are some pictures.

And this is Tony. He is a begle/lab mix, and he is just a ball of engery. He has the best personalty of all three dogs. Tends to get into truble a lot with his brouther though.
