I closed my pasture gate yesterday, and the top gate bolt pulled right out. I kicked the 6-8x8 and my foot nearly went thru it. This so far, is my only vresote post that has shown any signs of problems.

I dug it out and pulle dthe fence wire, boards and brack wire and post, and yanked it outta the whole.. boy.. I was hoping the fence guy had cut it off some when he sunk it.. nope.. it was ALL in there /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I replaced it with a 6-8x8 PT post I had. Fit perfectly.. Drille dthe fence botls and got it all reattached, just in time for some friends to show up and tell me that I shoulda called them to help /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And I'll bet that eventhough they didn't help you, they still drank your beer!

But I'll comiserate with you. It seems like everytime I go to start a project of any type, I end up doing some sort of unexpected repair that takes more time and effort than it should and whatever it is that I went to do in the first place ends up undone!

Me too!!! My helper (son) is 3. How old is yours? If he helps me a full day, I'm set back at least a week.

Amazing how that always happens! They probably drove up when you were doing it and high tailed it before you saw them!

My daughter is 10. Just old enought to actually THINK she can help. I wait until she goes out of town with the lovely Mrs_Bob before I start any real projects. A few weeks ago she wanted to help me build a retaining wall for our new patio in the soon to become Japanese garden area. I ended up taking time off of work so I could work while she was at school and so I could actually GET STUFF DONE /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My son is 26, married, and 2 kids of his own. My daughter is 24, 2 kids, and a 3rd on the way. Just me and the wife and the dog at home now.

I look back on the days when I had 2 kids in the way, and miss them dearly.....

Thank GOD for grandkids............. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wow! This sounds like my life! I had to put in an h-brace, and my 4 and 6 year old daughters insisted on helping me. Then my neighbor came by as I was finishing and said the same darn thing! Lifting a 6" 8' long PT post is plenty of work. Especially when the hole is not deep enough and you have to pull it back out... My brother used to help me, but since he has a new girlfriend he no longer comes over on the weekends. My wife is pregnant, so I am a one man show. Right now my back hurts, and I was glad to come back to work where I have less physical labor.

Joe

By the way, every project I have takes longer and costs more than I ever predict. I am a bad estimator!

Yep.. as I was shoveling and tamping around the post they all showed up. I do recall they helped me carry the shovel and PHD, hammer and nail bucket back to the barn.. and yes.. there was some frost beverage consumption going on the rest of the afternoon, and we didn't get nearly as much work done after that!

Man I hate fencing. I built my last one with steel. Never wanted to do it again! The hinge posts for the 9' gate sections (to make an 18' gate) were 13' long 8" 600lb steam piping. I hit it with my truck one day. Post won, truck lost! I hate fencing with a passion, but of all life's endeavors, it's one of the most visible.
