I've got one of these going on the "Build-it-Yourself" forum. There are several problems with this design. Namely, his transmission and main rotor need to be at the center of gravity. His is too far aft. He's not going to have enough aft cyclic authority to get off the ground. Another problem with using the rear PTO for the transmission is you loose your PTO for other things. That is why I'm going with a mid-mount PTO transmission. I'm also going with coaxial rotors so I don't have to dedicate the 3pt to a tailboom and anti-torque rotor. What's the utility of having a flying tractor if you don't have a 3pt and PTO? May as well just be another helo sitting in the hangar (and I've got enough of those already).

Using the mid-PTO is not a bad idea but watch the ratios in your 90* gearbox, at 2000 RPM that most mid-PTOs turn at comapared to the 540 you could burn one up pretty quickly. If you decide to stay with the 2000 RPM you'll likely exceed torque limitations of that mast and head fairly quickly.

I'd just utilize a jet engine tacked onto the 3 pt arms and load the rear tires with fuel for ballast....
