Why the next thing you know they'll be riding tractors and sitting in p/u's instead of horses and buckboards.

Thats the biggest one I've seen. We see them all the time down here, but never quite that big. Sure would hate to have my golf ball land near him on one of our Hilton Head Island courses....I'd surely be convinced to take a penalty stroke and leave the ball if I did!!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

If that gator is still alive I don't think its such a good idea for that gentleman to be standing within tail swinging distance!

When I posted this picture I assumed it came from the Lake Charles, La. area. Then I received another email with the same picture saying it came from the Shell Oil complex on the east side of Houston. Sooo, I don't know if this is a swamp gator or a ship channel gator. In any event, it looks like it been around for many, many years. I would be curious to know it vitals... age, weight, length, etc. Like Ozarker said, it's gotta be close to a record.

I gave your picture to my brother, who for reasons beyond my understanding, has had a life long facination with all crocodillians. He actually kept some as pets. He is quite certain that this guy is a modern day record. Depending on the size of the man in the picture (assuming he isn't a midget) that thing is somewhere between 15 and 18 feet long. a BIG gator these days is 12. He guesses it might weight well over a ton and a half. Now if you really want BIG, there is a salt water croc in the south pacific that can reach 30 feet.

We have been up close and personal with a life size replica of the biggest croc ever caught (well it wasn't caught until it was dead) in Australia.

For you metric challenged folk it was about 28' long.

That is one LARGE croc. It was in Normanton up in our gulf contry and was shot by a woman !!

The kids of the people we were travelling with could sit in its open mouth.

Scary stuff /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Chris, I, too, wonder what the real story is. I just received that same picture via e-mail today (been forwarded a few times) with the following text below it:

<font color=blue>"We sure know how to grow them in TEXAS!

Anyone who goes to the Brazos Bend State Park, might want to reconsider this location. This gator was caught a few weeks ago at Kitty Hollow Park in Missouri City, Texas on Highway 6. A construction worker found it laying in one of these concrete pipes. The animal control officers said it weighed just under 2100 pounds and was 18 1/2 feet long. I say again, this was Texas, not the Florida Everglades? (To think kids play at the park just a few yards away!!)"</font color=blue>

Missouri City is about S.H. 6 and U.S. 59 just west of Houston, but as to whether the story is true . . ., your guess is as good as mine.
