Cag,

Thanks for the kind words. It was great that my whole family was involved with raising the frame. Our children are all homeschooled so they were able to be there the whole week. They learned something during that week that few children learn. I wanted to show them that they can build their own house if they wish and that it can be built to last. The little ones loved hammering in real wood pegs.

I can't wait to see your carved beam. That's got to be a ton of fun.

So post your pictures soon.

We're on pins and needles waiting.

Haz ... I'm getting the crazy notion to build a barn sumpin like that. Have you been able to figure out what your cost per sq. foot is gonna be?

Believe it or not. It added about $3.00 per sq. ft. to the cost of our house. We purchased the wood and had it cut prior to prices going up. Regular stick framing has gone up a lot in the last year or so. The company we used has kits that are very reasonable. It you cut the wood yourself with wood from your own property, it will be less expensive than regular stick framing. It takes time and patience and very careful measurements. You can save some on drywall because many people use boards T/G 2x6 for the ceiling and floor of the upstairs. It is worth looking into it anyway.

Here also is the picture of my letter carving. I just have to add a couple of maple leaves. The name of the area where we built is called Maple Ridge.
