Thanks for replying. I still haven't made a decision, however this looks very promising from the information that I have received on their web page. What model lift did you purchase? I am leaning toward the larger of the two base model 4 post lifts, because I have a SUV. My one concern is that it is 9'6" wide and my garage door is 10'. Don't know if it is going to be too close to move it outside for summer use. Do you have the wheel kit for moving it around? Thanks for all your help.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Talk to Charlie down there....I think he is the owner. I bought the regular model, and I had no problem parking the beast of all beasts...a Diesel Ford Excursion on the unit. I bought the aluminum ramps, the jack bridge and a few of the drip pans were thrown in.

Harbor Freight routinely runs sales on the Bend-Pak lifts. The price
advertised includes shipping.

I to am on the fence about a lift. Still working out the final choice.

The K&W are awfully light weight. My application is for diesel pickups so the 7000 lbs just is not enough. I am looking at a 9K or a 10K two post.

The autolifters are a cheaper than some of the competition. That may not be a good thing.

I am kind of leaning towards these guys:

Talked with them on the phone and they appear very informed about the issues with these lifts.

The big question for me is symmetric or asymmetric......

Anyone try and lift a tractor with one of these? It would work from a weight point of view but I think the tires on my petit little tractor are too big to get the arms up under.

In our shop, we have Bend-paks, Rotary, and AAmco lifts. I would not get a 4 post lift for business mechanical use. I would get the 2 post like you said. I would not put a tractor up on a 2 post lift either...no way.

Here is the reason that I won't consider a 2 post lift. Sure, it doesn't happen every day, but when it does, it does ruin your day. I have seen this happen too often with heavy vehicles. You don't want to be near this when it happens.

Picture 2 ....... this accident happened at a Cadillac dealership and the person that put the car on the lift was a experienced mechanic/technician that had been using the lift for many years. This car had been serviced on that lift many times before this accident. This happened as the car was being lowered. The car was a total loss....

Safety was a big concern when I bought mine. The KW lift is overbuilt for my needs., and extremely stable.

No doubt that the potential to get hurt is there.

I think that cars that do not have a frame are more dangerous. If you try to lift the vechile on a point that is not strong enough to take the weight you will have a major problem. A truck with a frame is safer.

Also you never see it done, but if you stick a jack stand at each end of the two frame rails you can reduce the risk. They make 2 ton jack stands that are very tall for this purpose.

Problem with a four post is that its a pain if you need to pull the tires. Unless you have a bridge jack(s). But then your talking major money.
