I am sure 455a was joking, but don't even think about this. Even as a landowner, you are not allowed to employ booby traps on your own property. If someone gets hurt, you are going to have a huge problem, civilly and criminally. We know that kids are joining in the trespass activity. If they were to get hurt or injured, it would be a lot worse.

I agree with the majority.
Continue your photographic evidence. When it happens again contact either the police or DEC (game warden). It is your property. It is posted. No one asked permission to be on your property. Have the DEC or police speak to the trespassers giving them a warning that if it happens again you will press charges. Maybe have the authorities ask the trespassers how they would feel if you brought your tractor down and drove all over their property tearing it up. They do not have the right to trespass on posted land.

Here in Mass. the environmental police have the right to take the quad and fine $500.00 for trespass with out written permission. I have talked to an officer about this and he said if I have them come out they will not just give a warning. I don't want to see some one lose a $5000.00 machine or fined $500.00 but it may come to that.
No they are not baiting the apples are there to try and get a pig that got loose to hang around long enough to catch him. We do not allow any hunting on the property as my wife and her friends walk the trails regularly. And I have a 300 acre farm that I hunt down the road owned by my company. I even gave the only hunter that called me for permission to hunt our back yard permission for him and his son to hunt the farm. Maybe your right and I am being to much of a gentleman about this and should just let the EPO have at it this weekend.

The trespassers are idiots. You can't reason with idiots or arrogant folks. Let them learn their lesson the hard way. If that means their toy is confiscated, good.
Increased use and ownership of ATV's has been a downhill thing for land owners. They don't belong in State Forests either. They trash the land and those forests aren't there for trashing and chewing up.

All states have different laws on trespassing.You may have to contact a lawyer.I read you can send the offenders a registered letter and tell them you will take them to small claims court for damages done.

I get many trespassers and I find that by far the best approach is the simple respectful one.
I approach them and simply state. "This is private property. Please don't trespass." I then turn and leave with no discussion, because I really don't care why they are trespassing, I just want them gone.
They then have the opportunity to leave with their dignity. I have the opportunity to leave with normal blood pressure. So far I have had great success. Trespassers leave in a timely manner and don't come back.
As a back up plan, I do photograph them discretely before I approach. Just in case things go poorly and I need the police to be involved.
