Glueguy - I'm willilng to make this a little easier on you guys. (I'm not going to say anything foolish like "I'm willing to meet you halfway"...)

If there's a TBN shindig, maybe I could just bring the EF-5 to it, and you guys who are "geographically challenged" (from a very biased east-coast point of view, of course) would have another reason to come. I'll even get an extra set of stickers, etc. so you guys can reapply them after the paint dries. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Glueguy - BTW, how do you rent paint? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

/ Foward Reverse is backwards #44
MossRoad - same way you rent beer That works for me. But I noticed it was you that suggested that approach, not GlueGuy or Harv... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

there's one thing I do know: I don't have a pink tractor!!!

Well, now I know that GlueGuy knows that he doesn't know what he doesn't know, but you never know if Mark knows what he doesn't know or if he knows what he knows as well as he thinks he knows.

Harv...Are the words in bold some sort of subliminal message?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Mark,

Renting paint is a LOT cheaper than buying it. You have to do a cost/benefit analysis to determine whether it's right for you. Kind of like cars (lease or own). Main issue is whether you want to commit all that money up front, or amortize it over the life of the article. Also has benefits at tax time...

Now if you believe that line, there's this bridge I'd like to rent.... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I'll even get an extra set of stickers, etc. so you guys can reapply them after the paint dries.

This is going to be SO much fun! I wasn't planning on going, but it's starting to look better and better....

Wow, JB! Good eye!

A subliminal message created by my subconscious mind. Seems the less I know about what I don't know, the more clever I am.

Oh sure, Mark! Now you want the kind that dries! /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

JB - Good one! Under the circumstances, you'd think I'd have spotted it! I wish I had... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

/ Foward Reverse is backwards #51
GlueGuy - Thanks for the detailed analysis but if you don't mind I'll wait for the rest of the story from Glennmac before I rent any paint from you... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Of course, I'd have to understand his answer, too, so maybe you better just go ahead and rent it to someone else. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

/ Foward Reverse is backwards #52
Harv - So you're worried about the extra expense of purchasing paint that'll dry, eh? Maybe I'll just trade my EF-5 in on a bigger EarthForce machine, the EF-6. Then, you definitely wouldn' be able to afford the project. Still, it seems like folks are tripping all over themselves trying to get in on the job, so you shouldn't be worried about that. Before it's over, you'll have half the TBN membership contributing...

I DO KNOW that this is a great site/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif i don't know how it got from froward is reverse to the merits of 4wd, to renting pink paint?/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif reminds me of the abbott and costello routine"who's on first" /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif. i do know that i don't care what size the tractor, if it has 4wd it is better than the same with 2 wd. OR DON'T I KNOW WHAT I DON'T KNOW? and there is an awful lot i don't know/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I think I know I'm getting a headache....or...am I, I don't know...maybe it's all in my head /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif . What do you think?? Or do you know?

This thread is certainly an interesting peregrination of non-sequiturs. I can't help commenting on Mark's tirade to the effect that one should not have opinions on the usefulness of a thingamabob unless one owns a thingamabob. Under that logic, Ghandi could not have had an opinion on anything. The Pope could not have an opinion on harems. Lincoln could not have had an opinion on slaves. Einstein could not have had an opinion on black holes. Bill Clinton could not have an opinion on 38D cups. And Mark could not have an opinion of Bill Clinton. Of course, I really don't know if I know the underlying knowledge of Mark's knowing statement--and ignorance is bliss.

...one should not have opinions on the usefulness of a thingamabob unless one owns a thingamabob

I've always read Mark's comments to mean that he places more weight on the opinions of those who have owned a thingamabob more than those who have not.

Bill Clinton could not have an opinion on 38D cups

Bill might not have 'owned' them, but he borrowed a set for a while. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

glennmac - There may be more than coincidence in the fact that all of your examples, accurate and effective as they were, were centered around morals, ethics and conscience (excluding 38D cups, of course), whereas mine were centered around mechanical devices. Unless you made the quite understandable mistake of assuming a thingamajigger, never having seen one, was a moral principle. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

MikePa, however, highlighted the jist of what I was getting at. I should've had him say the first time. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

So, are you still in a blissful state? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

So, are you still in a blissful state?

Only if he's still thinking about 38D cups. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I think a pink EF5 would be so noticable, a thief would leave it alone, but Mary Kay sales people might ask to borrow it in real bad weather.
