try to walk it on. most vbelts will do that..

ok... there's a pulley (actually there are 2 almost side by side) about mid-deck. One looks like it has a locking nut on it... it's *possible* if I take that one off that walking the belt on will work and then I can put that smaller pulley back.... I'll give it a try when my glass of wine has worn off ;)

I swear GM made the insulation out of walnuts.

then ford bought it from the same place.

twice tree rats have nested in and around my air box and firewall on my power stroke. one time nibbling the thermocouple wire. GRRRRRRR

ok.. got it fixed. I got help... walking it on wasn't an option, even after removing one of the small mid-deck pulleys... but after removing the back wheel it was somewhat 'easier' to remove the fan that sits on top of the offending pulley and then the belt went back ok. It's all back together now and the "cheat" I found for getting the mower deck on made it much easier for the second time :D it's now an official cheat LOL Thanks everyone for the tips, and sympathy over the squirrel.. I'm told they are agents for the gnomes, so it all makes sense (to me). You're an awesome group though I sure hope I don't have a reason to need to come back. Thanks for helping me out !!

Should it happen again, USUALLY one of the pulleys that the transmission drive belt runs over/through, is mounted on a short swivel-arm with a heavy spring to maintain tension on the belt. Often, there is some provision on the arm to insert a socket wrench drive (3/8" or 1/2" square) so that you can pivot the arm/spring enough to slip the belt over it. On mine (Cub Cadet LT1050) the drive belt is so old and stretched out that it occasionally pops off, but then is loose enough to fairly easily reinstalled. I've got a new belt in the shop, but have been too lazy so far to install it!

i used to have an old murray that was so hard to get to the drive belt that you wanted to use that make a belt stuff ( lil fiberglass wafers.. etc. )

I prefer them new shrink-on belts, myself... just drape 'em on, slip the clutch to heat it up and shrink to fit - piece of cake.
